Director, Asia Pacific Tax

This position, based in Singapore, reports to the Chief Tax Officer and will play a key role in tax advisory strategies, assure tax accounting under ASC 740 and compliance with SOX 404, manage tax compliance and tax audits for all entities in the region while partnering with the commercial business units at a corporate and regional level in Asia. The successful candidate will proactively manage the relationships with local authorities and agencies, including local tax incentives, and manage relationships with external consulting firms and stakeholders within the region.

Responsibilities: 


Research complex tax issues for tax planning, tax accounting, compliance and reporting and support Regional and Global Tax projects, including reorganization, M&A and post-acquisition integration under ASC 740 and local tax accounting rules.Ensuring a robust process is in place by partnering with both the Finance and Global Tax functions in the timely completion of tax provisions, providing high level reviews to ensure the provisions are adequate.Working with the Finance and Global Tax functions along with external consultants for the timely completion and filing of tax returns and other compliance requirements where opportunities are optimized and tax risks areas are adequately addressed.Cultivate relationships with and manage outside advisors, including the selection of service providers for tax advice on transactional planning projects to assist in implementation of agreed strategies, within budget allowances.Manage regional tax audits with external advisors, including organizing and supervising the preparation of ruling requests, refund claims, objections, protests and administrative appeals.

Ensure adequate defense documentation is in place to support the positions taken in the tax return. Development of strategies to close audits in the best interests of the Company.Work with the Transfer Pricing team on the review of transfer pricing documentation for regional entities prepared by service providers to help ensure timely filing, completeness, and accuracy of such reports.Collaborate with Treasury to develop tax-efficient funding and repatriation strategies that are in line with the goals of the company, including managing currency exposure risk, and execute on such strategies. Advise senior management of the business and tax impact of new laws, court decisions,regulations, rulings, and proposed tax legislation in in the region.

This role requires approximately 30% regional travel in APAC countries.


Qualifications:  


Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Accounting or Taxation; Master’s in Taxation and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification is desiredMinimum 15 years of diverse Corporate Tax experience from a Big 4 accounting firm, law firm, and / or large multinational corporation, including extensive tax experience within Asia.Thorough understanding of tax accounting compliance principles and requirements along with ASC 740 and proficiency with tax provision reviews.Strong working knowledge of SOX 404 controls framework specifically for TaxIn-depth knowledge of tax rules of Singapore, Australia, China, Korea, Japan and Hong Kong, including Corporate Income Tax, VAT, GST and withholding tax.

 Strong working knowledge of customs rules and customs audit processes associated with chemical manufacturing and distribution.Broad based advisory exposure in multiple tax areas including transfer pricing, direct and indirect tax, permanent establishment, and principal structures with a thorough understanding of tax incentives and tax planning strategies applicable in the region and globally.Strong experience in leading cross-functional teams in legal entity restructuring, including creation of step plans and analyzing tax consequences under local tax laws and ASC 740.Demonstrated proficiency with OneSource Tax Provision software and SAP (or other ERP software)Solid collaboration skills with the ability to work with senior management and across levels or functions to effectively achieve desired results; fluent in EnglishAbility to promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement; outstanding project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
