HSE Specialist (Health/Safety/Environmental)
As a full-time member of the PK HSSE Team, the HSE Specialist will ensure that successful Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) management is completed for PK Industrial shop and field jobsites while providing a safe and compliant workplace for all PK Companies employees. PK Industrial specializes in Abrasive Media Blasting, Fireproofing/Industrial Coatings Application, Scaffolding erection, and Insulation service projects for the industrial and commercial sectors.This is a regular, full-time, salaried role with long-term potential for the right person to grow with the company (not an hourly contract safety role).This HSE Specialist will primarily work with the PK Industrial team in the Augusta KS area, with a goal to support both shop and field operations through promoting safe and compliant work.
This requires someone who is proactive, solution oriented, and enjoys being challenged. Success in this role comes by building relationships and approaching HSSE management in an updated and engaging way while challenging the team for improvements to grow a strong culture among PK Companies.

Responsibility examples include:
- Conduct HSSE training for employees. Manage periodic safety topics and bulletins.
- Coordinate client location orientation trainings or other training events.
- Proficiency with PK internal Learning Mgmt. System (LMS) operations, maintenance, and records. Help ensure high quality of training initiatives.
- Championing the PK “Own It Safety” Culture through a high level of passion around safe work.
- Ensure all HSSE related tasks, topics, and events are managed for field crews working at client site.
- Help ensure employee compliance with company/client-site HSSE rules, protocols.
- Develop and ensure task specific JHAs (Job Hazard Analysis) are followed, and JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis) are completed prior to working.
- HSSE related job planning. Attend or lead internal and client safety meetings.
- Review employee completed HSSE tasks, forms, and client site work permits.
- Complete risk assessments & hazard recognition activities to mitigate risk.
- Supporting employee fit-testing and drug-testing processes, and Industrial Hygiene tasks/reporting.
- Implement methods to prevent incidents, injury, and illness.
- Complete inspections & HSSE auditing of jobsites through technology-based tools.
- Develop Site Safety Plans & Emergency Response/Action Plans and help ensure proper execution. Aid in review of and obtaining client site work permits.
- Review employee completed HSSE tasks, forms, and processes.
- HSSE equipment management (PPE, respirators, fall protection, fire extinguishers, air monitors, security, etc.)
- Coach employees on HSSE improvements and conduct HSSE training.
- Complete incident investigations, document safety violations, corrective actions, and improvement opportunities.
- Successfully manage employee injury/illness reports and events.
- Ensure safe product handling and basic environmental compliance. Ensure waste is managed and disposed of according to regulation and company guidelines.
- Security functions: monitor alarm/camera systems, jobsite and facility security.
- Interact well with customer/client representatives to build strong relationships.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Successfully pass drug screening/background checks, be aligned with the PK Core Values.
- Self-starter that is dependable with a strong work ethic is an absolute necessity.
- Safe driver possessing a valid driver’s license, with reliable transportation.
- 30% Travel. Typical working environment includes PK shop locations and client field jobsites in the Oil & Gas/Energy industry.
- Must reside within 45 minutes of the PKI-KS location (just east of Augusta, KS).
- Moderate walking, climbing, exertion of up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally.
- Good communicator that can build relationships. English fluency required. Spanish fluency preferred, minimally capable of basic Spanish communication.
- Capable of safely operating and navigating in industrial environments, at height, and in hot/cold conditions.
- Microsoft Suite familiarity and solid ability to use technology applications for improved HSSE management.
- Minimum one-year general working/intern experience - preferably in HSSE, Industrial/Energy/Oil & Gas settings, or PSM related experience.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, KDHE/KDOL standards or regulations.
- OSHA 30 or greater training/knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in field HSSE work in the Energy/Oil & Gas, or Coatings/Construction/Soft-Craft industries.
- Strong knowledge of confined space, at-height work/fall-protection, coatings/painting/fireproofing/scaffolding/insulation applications or construction related safety projects.
- Professional HSSE certifications, associates, or bachelor’s degree.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, KDHE, API, NFPA, ASME, and ANSI standards.
- Technical and working understanding of industrial plant/facility settings and processes.
