Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) will serve as a key partner to the CFO and Bakkt Executive Leadership team. The CAO will be responsible for the leadership, development and execution of Bakkt’s accounting function, including SEC and statutory external reporting, technical accounting, accounting operations, accounting policy and internal controls. Of critical importance will be this leader’s ability to establish credible working relationships with our Executive Leadership team, business leaders, independent auditors, and own the relationship with the Audit and Risk Committee of the Board of Directors.The CAO will have overall responsibility for financial reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, corporate accounting policies and technical accounting analysis, financial systems, and operational accounting.
This individual will be responsible for assuring the overall integrity and efficiency of the Company’s accounting function and, as such, will ensure the appropriate financial controls are in place and in compliance with all regulations.The ideal candidate will embody most of the following characteristics, experiences and/or credentials:
- Experience dealing with complex accounting matters, including some combination of public accounting and corporate experience.
- Experience managing teams and the development, administration and efficacy of Financial Systems.
- Deep expertise in complex technical accounting matters.
- Experience keeping the CFO and executive team apprised of the accounting policy landscape including existing and new/evolving GAAP.
- Experience providing support in strategic M&A transactions.
- Ability to understand key operational business drivers and possession of broad knowledge across a range of finance and accounting functions.
- Operational experience and responsibility for core transactional accounting and process areas.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
