Job Overview:
The Energy Efficiency Product Merchandiser (Retail) is responsible for supporting the growth and expansion of the Montgomery County, MD area energy efficiency products. This individual will provide education and information about a local utility provider’s product(s) in retail locations throughout the local service territory and ensure products are accurately priced. The Retail Energy Efficiency Product Analyst will educate employees at retail locations on the product benefits and best practices for selling products to consumers, as well as assist clients with understanding potential savings opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Travel by car throughout the assigned geography in Maryland
- Distribute Point of Purchase (POP) materials at participating retail locations. Interact with retailer sales staff to promote relevant energy-efficient product messaging
- Record all field activity in the program database at the time of field visits
- Manage day-to-day activities for field visits to ensure maximum value is provided to the client.
- Prepare status reports to accurately describe activities in the field and to monitor progress towards achievement of program goals
- Schedule and staff special events at big box retail locations during evening and weekends
- Assist the program team in the implementation and optimization of program administrative resources
- Provide education to clients and consumers on residential savings opportunities. This includes providing knowledge and information on energy-efficient technologies such as appliances, electronics, residential LED lighting, and HVAC equipment to retail associates, contractors, and other trade allies participating in programs targeted at the residential sector as well as consumers
- Attend client-sponsored promotional events at wholesale and retail levels
- Assist in the preparation of internal and client presentations
- Contribute to the evolution of program strategies and the design of program features, services, and marketing campaigns
- Develop rapport and build relationships with retailers and external clients
- Assist with other projects and assignments as needed
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage deadlines and projects with competing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong proofreading and editing skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
- Solid quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to connect quickly with others and work effectively at all levels within and outside of the organization, including vendors and business partners
- Ability to travel within the Montgomery County, MD, and surrounding area
- Flexibility to rotating weekends and additional hours as needed
- Ability to prioritize and work independently.
- Ability to work well under pressure in time-critical situations and be productive and self-motivated during slow periods.
- Intermediate experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access is essential.
- Advanced conflict resolution skills are required.
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license, clean driving record, proof of motor vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation
Highly Desired Qualifications:
- Bilingual (a plus)
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in energy and energy efficiency programs or related trade experience
- Experience with the energy efficiency program market in the state of Maryland.
- One to three years of experience working with commercial trade allies working on energy efficiency programs in Maryland or experience building relationships with trade allies in similar markets.
