Job Summary:
Bishop Lifting, an Altamont portfolio company, is seeking a Buyer to join the team in Houston, TX. You will be a key member of the team purchasing over $150M of direct materials annually across 45 locations and ensuring we have the right inventory availability that supports growth while managing inventory value.The Buyer executes the tactical aspects of the company’s supply chain strategy by building and maintaining an order pipeline that balances service and inventory levels and working with vendors ensure timeline delivery and address backorders and delivery performance issues.
Utilizing purchasing recommendations from demand planning tools and feedback from the field, executes the analysis and decision making to build orders that meet program requirements and are cost effective for transportation and logistics.
Essential Functions:
- Purchase order creation – Create POs to replenish inventory using reports from demand planning tools and feedback from the field. Determine optimal purchasing quantities and cadence to balance availability, order cost, and inventory value.
- Order management – Work with vendors to ensure timely delivery, update order status, and address backorders
- Vendor management –Collaborate with supply chain leadership to address chronic vendor performance issues
- Forecasting – Work with branch and sales teams to address inventory moves for new or lost business and inform demand planning team to update future forecasts
- Identify opportunities to redeploy inventory understanding handling and transportation costs
- Monitor freight expenses for follow-up and budgeting
- Work with Purchasing Manager to improve purchasing processes
- Communicate with branches regarding material status, availability, and quality
- Perform other duties as specified
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a buyer position or related role
- An in-depth knowledge of process management as it relates to placing replenishment orders and expediting deliveries to meet stocking levels
- Proficient with Excel. Prior use of PowerBI and inventory management software and ERP systems is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
