JOB SUMMARY:


To promote the mission of PATH to help individuals achieve a more independent and fulfilling life by being an effective team member. The Job Coach / Employment Specialist acts as a liaison between employers and employees with disabilities as well as effectively supporting people to successfully obtain and maintain employment. Assists in information gathering, employment exploration, and employment support for people with all types and severity of disabilities. Provides on-the-job training and follow along services.

Jobs may be in all areas of Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs. Hours vary including evenings, weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years experience preferred in Rehabilitation, Human Resources, Sales, or Employment Counseling.
  • Active Driver's License and personal vehicle required.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with diverse types of people and representatives from business and industry in appropriate manner. Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate training needs of individuals receiving services.  
  • COVID-19 vaccination, or willingness to receive vaccine required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:


  • Gathers information about job seekers’ interests, skills, experiences, & needs  
  • Assists people in exploring job options by accompanying & supporting them at assessments in businesses as needed
  • Engages in job development activities to assist people obtain employment
  • Provides individualized on-site and off-site supports to people working which may include vocational counseling, on-the job training, and follow along supports
  • Provides employment related skill development, transportation training, money management, medical support/medication monitoring, hygiene support, and interpersonal skill training
  • Provides on-the-job training at a variety of business settings, performing any number of jobs.  Jobs may include sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time, lifting and carrying of heavy materials in all types of environments.
  • Assists in the development of naturally occurring supports at job site
  • Explores, creates, researches and/or implements job accommodations and adaptations as needed
  • Interacts & communicates with family members, significant others, employers, & other community agencies effectively
  • Monitors authorized hours for those being served

Life at PATH (People Acting To Help)

Our roots can be traced back to 1973 when PATH was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation. This came about from the efforts of a group of dedicated community members, many of whom had family members in need of services, which were scarce to non-existent at the time. They worked tirelessly with a group of caring professionals to form PATH and to secure funding in order to provide much needed services to the citizens of Northeast Philadelphia. This tradition of the involvement of dedicated and compassionate community members continues today through our volunteer Board of Directors who are all residents of Northeast Philadelphia. The Board of Directors, which is largely composed of family members of individuals who participate in our programs, continues to strongly advocate for the needs of the community. Over the years, our community has expanded to include individuals throughout the city of Philadelphia and in surrounding counties through our Specialized Russian services Starting with a staff of 14 in rented office space providing only information and referral services, PATH has significantly expanded its programs as we currently serve over 3,000 individuals annually in our various Behavioral Health Programs, which include both Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment, as well as in our Intellectual Disabilities programs. With over 500 competent and considerate staff members, we are able to provide a wide array of quality services to meet individuals' needs. Our facilities include our main campus at 8220 Castor Avenue, 4 satellite locations, and over 70 homes in the community where we provide residential supports to enable individuals to remain living in the community. We also provide school based services in numerous Philadelphia schools. We have remained true to our mission of helping individuals achieve a more independent and fulfilling life.
