7am – 11am shift, Monday – Friday - 20 hours a week 


OverviewThe Security Guard provides a secure environment in which the client care function of Health Care for the Homeless can operate by providing for the protection of clients, staff, visitors, property and the building.Key Role Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and resolve issues that pose a potential risk to agency operations and staff/patient well-being. Exercise mature judgment, sound reasoning and strong interpersonal skills 
  • Protect all employees, patients, visitors or others agency grounds from physical harm; assist staff with the control of violent and /or disruptive clients, visitors and staff as required
  • Protect the agency's assets from fire, theft, damage, misuse, or conversion, including making rounds and taking appropriate action to report and resolve incidents
  • Respond to emergency situations, working with staff, and establish effective perimeter control, scene management, and liaison with local police. 
  • Enforce Health Care for the Homeless regulations and policies and prepare written incident reports as needed

Key Agency Responsibilities In addition to role responsibilities, each staff member of Health Care for the Homeless has the following responsibilities as a part of their employment:

  • Models and reinforces the Health Care for the Homeless “core values” of dignity, authenticity, hope, justice, passion and balance
  • Actively participates in performance improvement activities and actively participates in advocacy activities that support the mission of Health Care for the Homeless
  • Protects our client’s personal health information by maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other relevant Health Care related IT security regulations 
  • Performs other duties on an as-needed basis

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills 

Formal Education and Training


  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience 


  • Experience working with people who are experiencing homelessness or from low-income backgrounds
  • Experience in verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Experience in nonviolent physical intervention

Skills 


  • Must be able to remain calm in highly inflammatory circumstances, providing and taking clear direction and maintaining a respectful demeanor
  • High level of motivation, initiative and responsibility 
  • Excellent customer service, with ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
  • Able to cope with interruptions, be flexible and be a team player

Life at Health Care for the Homeless

Health Care for the Homeless pieces together over 40 public and private funding sources to provide comprehensive services to homeless people. We depend upon private contributions to cover a substantial portion of our annual budget. With help from our individual supporters, we provided comprehensive services to over 8,500 men, women and children last year. Your contribution goes a long way. Resources obtained through private donations helps meet a range of needs including much needed medication, medical supplies, transportation, clothing, food, and emergency care for people with disabilities.
