JOB GOAL
: The Custodial Worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the school building and following all required procedures when cleaning.
Responsibilities
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
- Gather and empty all trash.
- Clean and supply restrooms and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, doors, walls using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, for board meetings and events.
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- High degree of professionalism
- Reliable and able to work some weekends.
Physical Demands
- Speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear and, sometimes, to sit.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print.
- Frequently bend, reach above the head, as well as forward, and use fine motor skills.
