Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technologist performs a variety of technical and general duties at an advanced skill level as well as data entry and reporting. Functions in both team environment and independently.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Performs routine testing in a high-complexity molecular lab setting, including result analysis.Responsible for auxiliary lab functions such as reagent preparation, maintaining inventory and performing routine instrument maintenance.Follows established policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and instrument maintenance.Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies by performing proper documentation and maintaining related records.Documents any deviations from procedure and completes appropriate CAPA.Follows all safety, environmental and infection control policies.May participate in research activities as needed.Interacts with other departments related to patient care.Highly organized with great attention to detail.Works well in team environment but can also work independently.Performs other related duties as identified. Education:
Bachelor's Degree– Molecular Biology, Medical Technology or a related science. MB(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) certification preferred or obtained within 6-12 months of hire.
Experience:
ASCP certification or 2+ years of experience in high complexity molecular testing, preferably in a CAP/CLIA laboratory environment.
Competencies Needed:
Excellent pipetting skills with extreme attention to detail. Understanding of general molecular techniques and technologies, including nucleic acid isolations, reagent management, quality assurance/quality control, real time PCR and laboratory information systems. Sanger DNA sequencing experience a plus. Must have strong computer skills particularly in Excel. Strong interactive and collaborative skills, effective problem-solving skills. Dedicated and goal oriented with ability to meet deadlines.
Position requires effective verbal and written communication skills as well as strong people skills.
