Responsibilities:
- Assist in coordinating a fleet of over 500 covered hopper railcars to suppliers, plants, and storage to satisfy the needs of suppliers and customers while considering cost, sustainability, quality, and safety.
- Manage workflow for railcar repair shops by acting as liaison between customer and/or plant, rail car shops and rail lessors.
- Make recommendations to the business based on data with respect to fleet planning, fleet management and rail maintenance with the intent to minimize costs and maximize utilization while ensuring the highest levels of safety.
- Develop expertise with 3rd party program to improve use of data related to dwell times, stranded cars, detention, short and long-range planning for fleet leasing or acquisition.
- Assist the team with duties to include rail billing, terminal and customer requested reports
- Communicate with class 1 and short line railroads and associated customer service teams to proactively solve rail related issues while ensuring affected parties are kept informed.
- Focus on continuous improvement for enhanced safety, customer service, and cost-savings.
- Monthly reporting on rail related costs.
- Bi-monthly tracking and update of Fuel Surcharge for all class 1 Railroads.
- Support Fleet Manager as needed.
