Opportunity: 


TAYS is seeking a Senior Oracle and Postgres Systems Support Specialist to join our project team based in Baltimore, MD. The organization supports and maintains the Oracle Linux (OL) Operating System (OS), the Oracle Database Projects involving x86 Hardware, Oracle Virtual Machine, Cloud Services: system, and 3rd party software.  The organization’s ORACLE architecture comprises nationwide client/server databases for both internal and external users. This area currently supports over 450 ORACLE databases throughout the environment.

The POSTGRES architecture comprises over 30 databases and is growing. The objective of this task is to initiate and troubleshoot the hardware, Oracle Linux 6.x, 7.x and 8.x OS software used to support Oracle Databases and other Oracle products as well as the development/deployment of a virtualized Cloud OVM environment. In support of the task, our staff shall perform activities such as those described in the sub-tasks below. 

*This is a permanent, W2 position and will consist of a hybrid schedule. The Senior Oracle and Postgres Systems Support Specialist must be within 2 hours of Woodlawn, MD, or Durham, NC. 


Primary Responsibilities: 


  • Maintain ORACLE database software, and related ORACLE products: Oracle Internet Directory (OID), Oracle Unified Directory (OUD), Oracle Virtual Manager OVM, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB), Oracle Enterprise User Security Services, Oracle Partitioning Product, Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) and Oracle SQL Client.
  • Install and maintain ORACLE software versions 19c and 12C OID, OUD, OEM, OWB, OEUS, RAC and OES. Operate and configure ORACLE.
  • Perform requirements analysis and submit design documents and flow charts.
  • Create detailed build and upgrade documents, and change/installation plans.
  • Maintain POSTGRES database software in the cloud in support of internal and public facing applications.
  • Install and maintain POSTGRES software versions. Operate and configure POSTGRES. 
  • Troubleshoot problems at a high level.
  • Develop sophisticated and sometimes complex documentation regarding processes, procedures and tasks performed.
  • Create detailed build and upgrade documents.
  • Perform software installation and maintenance of ORACLE/VM, POSTGRES and third-party vendor products.
  • Install ORACLE /VM and third-party vendor software such as F-Secure, CA Access Control, CA eTrust software suite, and EMC’s Time Finder across SSA System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Maintain ORACLE /VM software and third-party vendor software across SSA SDLC.
  • ORACLE/VM, POSTGRES Problem Detection and Resolution.
  •  Problems causing systems to be non-operational will require immediate resolution regardless of time of day or day of week.
  • Provide 24x7 pager support to resolve database problems when they occur.
  • Communicate with SSA personnel by phone and email concerning details of the issue and expected resolution.
  • Evaluate performance issues and advise Task Manager on a proper plan of action to address the problem.
  • Analyze and resolve problems with database tables and indexes.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues between different UNIX environments, mainframe environment and the POSTGRES database systems.
  • Maintain an ORACLE / VM environment that processes workloads properly.
  • Develop and maintain UNIX shell scripts or SQL scripts that will actively monitor the software and hardware for potential problems and alert appropriate personnel by email and pager.
  • Maintain a POSTGRES environment that processes workloads properly.
  • Differentiate between hardware and software issues.
  • Recognize and correct configuration problems.
  • Identify and correct POSTGRES database connection issues.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelors' Degree
  • Contractors may be located at either facility – Baltimore, MD or Durham, NC.
  • Assumptions, Constraints and Special Conditions.
  • Minimum of 10 years combined support experience with Oracle, Oracle/VM, and Postgres in an on-prem or Cloud environment, Linux/UNIX servers, Oracle RAC, OID/OUD, OEUS, DataGuard, Oracle and Postgres troubleshooting, change management.
  • Use Agile, Confluence, BitBucket, Jenkins and other tools to facilitate task automation and version control and modern development environment practices.
  • Experience with customer technical support and routing/escalating requests.
  • Collaborate with support team members on solutions.
  • Ability to qualify for Public Trust Suitability.
  • The contractors are required to carry a cell phone and respond to client calls at all times
  • Ability to obtain & maintain an active Public Trust Clearance
