About the Position:
The Operations Manager is responsible for the planning, directing and coordination of Vanguard Electronics (Huntington Beach & LA) operations. They are also responsible for order delivery commitment, improving output performance, productivity, and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies that impact the quality and on-time delivery of production operations shipment. The Operations Manager will also be responsible to coordinate and work with our Mexico operations, so candidate must be bilingual.
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for the Operation Manager position would be a bilingual professional with previous experience in a manufacturing setting, specifically one who has not only continued processes but cultivated those processes from the ground up. They would be a self-starter that can lead the charge of the operations team and possess the ability to strategically communicate with both the executive and production teams to grow the team and streamline processes.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reports on production status, inventory levels, and production problems including unusual conditions in production, production support, and personnel areas potentially leading to inability to meet production schedules
- Reviews and distributes production work, provides direction of shipment schedules and confers with department managers to determine progress of work and completion dates.
- Ensure that all product is manufactured in a correct, cost effective and timely manner in alignment with specifications and quality requirements.
- Improve operational systems, processes and best practices that guarantee organizational well-being within the production, manufacturing and shipping areas of the business. Work with Human Resources and President to formulate and implement departmental practices and procedures to maximize output.
- Oversee and direct the purchasing of materials, planning of inventory and warehouse efficiency. Schedule, organize, coordinate and control production and supporting activities including raw material kitting to meet or exceed productivity target and commit date.
- Contribute towards the achievement of company’s strategic and operational objectives through proven leadership practices.
- Examine financial data and statements to suggest and implement solutions that improve profitability within the production and manufacturing environment. Prepare and control operational budgets.
- Must be able to travel as needed between the Los Angeles and Huntington Beach locations.
- Perform quality controls and monitor key performance indicators within production, manufacturing and shipping areas by managing the quality and quantity of products and machinery, including maintenance and planning.
- Monitor production runs and report production constraints to President and Engineering Manager, working towards resolving technical challenges.
- Provide safety and welfare of employees within assigned work areas.
- Make recommendations for providing appropriate headcount of production staff to meet volume of production and labor efficiency standards.
- Recruit, train, develop, coach and correct personnel and respond to employee concerns within designated and assigned areas with the partnership of Human Resources.
- Provide leadership and oversight to facilitate coordination and communication between supporting functions within designated areas, managing customer support, and liaising with top management towards strategic plans for operational activity and plans.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of production set up and processes, production equipment, and measuring devices as related to specific plant work areas.
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.
- Knowledge of plant AS9100 standard operating procedures and high reliability (MIL-981 Space) workmanship standards.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings.
- Basic knowledge of plant shipping and receiving, physical inventory, purchasing, time keeping, safety, and worker’s compensation forms and procedures.
- Key competencies include critical thinking and problem-solving skills, planning and organizing, communication skills, influencing and leading, delegation and negotiation, teamwork, conflict management and emotional intelligence.
- Excellent verbal and written communicationskills. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment a must.
- Previous project planning software experience is strongly preferred. Possess Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- ERP experience and track record working with Mexico suppliers and contractors a plus.
- Must be able to effectively report on the status of work in assigned areas and to effectively manage, motivate, coach and correct assigned personnel to achieve efficient and specific production goals.
Education/Experience:
BA/BS Degree or trade school certification in a related field or five (5) years’ leadership experience in production environment. Manufacturing/engineering discipline a plus. Broad familiarity with production operation, inventory, inspection and engineering specification procedures and responsibilities. Knowledge of plant AS9100 standard operating procedures and high reliability (MIL-981 Space) workmanship standards. Must be bilingual.
