Position Overview:
The Planner plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of manufacturing processes by developing production plans and schedules that optimize resource utilization, meet customer demand, and ensure timely delivery of products. This position involves analyzing demand forecasts, inventory levels, and production capacity to create feasible production schedules while considering factors such as lead times, material availability, and resource constraints. The Manufacturing Planner collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, logistics, and sales, to coordinate activities and ensure alignment in production planning efforts.
The Planner will utilize our ERP system to create work flow travelers for production, kitting, and shipping needs.
Planner Responsibilities
- Own the production schedule for the company and make sure it is updated and current on a daily basis
- Assist and support activities through operations across departments and assist supervision in keeping products on schedule
- Perform production activities to support manufacturing including coordinating with purchasing and receiving agent
- Follow/expedite material, tooling, documentation, parts, subassemblies, and or completed assemblies through all operations and processes in sufficient time to meet scheduled shipment/completion dates
- Interpret manufacturing/assembly drawings and process specifications to create accurate technician-level work instructions called travelers that fully conform to design requirements
- Create, revise, and maintain travelers and work instructions to process documents to produce parts
- Work with engineers for technical specifications, test procedures and travelers
- Optimize order of operations and assembly sequence to maximize build efficiency and reduce non-conforming parts and worker error
- Convert existing travelers and work instructions into standardized templates
- Interact with engineering, managers, and plant employees to ensure work instructions are accurate and comprehensible
- Attend production meetings with managers to establish work flow for customer orders, FPQs, and OTD
Planner Qualifications
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or Project Management
- Coursework or experience in production planning, inventory management, logistic and supply chain optimization would be preferred.
- 3-5 year of manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including welding, machining, and folding
- Able to read blueprints in standard and metric measurements
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret data, analyze trends, and make informed decisions regarding production scheduling, inventory levels, and resource allocation.
- Proficiency in using analytical tools and software for data analysis, such as Microsoft Excel, SAP, or ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, lead times, and production capacity constraints to develop feasible production schedules that meet customer demand while maximizing resource utilization.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies to streamline production workflows and eliminate waste.
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Good understanding of warehouse safety regulations
- Computer skills and knowledge of data entry and inventory software programs
- Must be fluent in both written and spoken English
- Must have basic Math skills and can accurately read/use a tape measure
- Must have a passion for doing a job well
- Able to work overtime as needed
- Must be a “self-motivated” team player
- Must be able to perform essential job requirements including the ability to lift 50 pounds, work in variable temperature conditions, and stand for long periods of time.
