Director, Business Development and Market Intelligence 


Duties



Lead business development with OEMs across various segments of electric transportation, portable appliance/device manufacturers, energy storage project developers, battery recyclers. Provide clear, concise updates to senior management. In partnership with sales and other functions, develop a multi-year commercial strategy with respect to automakers and battery manufacturers. Gather insights on key EV model launches, cell chemistry evolution, value chains, and competitor activity. Collaborate with other battery and automotive suppliers to identify emerging trends in drivetrain electrification.

Lead company’s strategy regarding customer targeting, anticipating changes in product specifications, business risk assessment and mitigation. Own price indexing analyses and decision making. Recommend prices and pricing mechanisms for addressing market cycles, explain methodology, pros and cons, and provide monthly updates to the sales and management teams. Provide inputs for supply contracts. Own company’s view on short and long-term pricing forecast and underlying factors. Construct pricing forecasts including short-term, tactical forecast for Sales, pricing steering committee, pricing committee and long-term, 5-year strategic forecast for Board of Directors and senior management. In partnership with the finance and operations organizations, drive future business growth.

Provide leadership for company’s capacity and capability planning, anticipating changes in product specifications and other product characteristics. Identify needs and develop cases for organic and inorganic resource and downstream investments. Develop competitive intelligence and benchmarking frameworks, investment economics-based long-term contract pricing. Transform pricing, customer, and market data into strategic, actionable information. Synthesize data and distill into concise conclusions. Provide inputs for external reporting, government and investor relations. Share views and conclusions with leaders across the company, actively engage them in constructive debate to consistently test conclusions. Represent the company as a speaker at industry events, present to government officials, joint venture Board.

Requirements



Requires Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Business Administration or related field of study, and 5 years of managerial experience in any job title/occupation/position involving long lead time capital projects, business cycles, new business development, marketing and sales in the chemical industry. Experience specified must include each of the following: 5 years of experience with lithium customers, products, markets and industry; lithium resource development, capital and operating costs; leading and interpreting competitors’ activities and their respective strategies into the lithium space; networking across global value chains for all types of lithium products; 5 years of experience collaborating with sales, finance, operations professionals in the lithium space on product pricing, placement and positioning strategies; consulting, influencing, persuading and coordinating the global commercial strategies for lithium products; 5 years of experience in global techno-commercial roles across the broader energy industry; 3 years of experience presenting to Board of Directors, senior management across functional lines, broader organization, and external stakeholders; and 3 years of experience developing and leading high performing teams. Telecommuting permitted up to 3 days per week.

Requires up to 20% domestic/international travel.
