In-office time brings many perks, and we also place an emphasis on planning events and fun that all can enjoy.  What does a day look like in my role?Leadpages’s Software Engineering Manager will be a dynamic player/coach who serves as an inspiring leader with a passion for managing people, developing software and solving problems.  This individual will grow and lead a team of engineers, personally develop and review code, and collaborate cross-functionally with other teams, executive staff and product management to fulfill our Roadmap. Your primary responsibilities will be to manage and mentor a small (~5) team of software developers, write industry-leading code and work alongside the wider engineering team in delivering software to meet the needs of our customers. To succeed in this role, you will have a passion for software development, be willing to actively contribute to a culture of collaboration and innovation, and possess a background in the SaaS space. Ultimately your job is to ensure that you and your team continue to ship high-quality software to support our scaling and growing business!We get it: You need to know what you’re applying for before you sign up, right? This is what you need to know: As our SoftwareEngineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Successfully managing, motivating and mentoring select members of the software engineering team
  • Using your extensive hands-on development experience to actively write and review code
  • Leading project teams toward the best technical solution and design/architectural decisions that meet the needs of our customers
  • Applying best practices to lead engineering teams through design, development, unit testing, code reviews, and deployment of features and components
  • Ensuring your team’s goals are aligned with the company and keeping them on track
  • Developing people within your teams towards their career progression goals
  • Taking part in Leadpages after hours support rotation
  • Collaborating with the product management team to deliver innovative, reliable products that delight our customers
  • Coordinating across multiple engineering teams and with engineering leadership when defining new designs and solutions
  • Advocating for high-quality standards in the team's work. Holding members accountable for adequately reviewing and testing code
  • Ensuring a high level of quality in Leadpages’s software products
  • Continuously looking for ways to improve the engineering organization

Work Style

  • Hybrid - In Victoria, BC (at least twice a week)

After 1 week

  • You will be onboarded with the engineering and leadership teams and get a sense of how you fit within the company
  • You will be introduced to your team in a group and in 1 on 1s 
  • You will be getting familiar with Leadpages’ products and processes
  • You will become familiar with our development environment and repositories

After 1 month

  • You will know all members of the Product and Engineering teams and understand who to ask for what
  • You will be introduced to our product roadmap and understand where you can make the greatest impact 
  • You will find a rhythm with your direct reports and start to define plans for meeting their unique needs
  • You will be contributing to (and or leading) an active project
  • You will have committed and reviewed code in one or more repositories

After 6 months

  • You will feel confident in your role and will be contributing on many fronts
  • You have built a strong rapport with your team and are helping them learn and grow in their roles
  • You will have helped release one (or more) projects and have a hunger for more!
  • You will have offered valuable insights into engineering processes and are actively contributing to ongoing improvements
  • You will be very familiar with one or more repositories and have contributed code in multiple places
  • You will be feeling comfortable with the wider system architecture and taken your place in the on-call after hours support rotation

What we would like to see in you.Every Redbricker has three things in common: We’re curious, hungry, and good-humoured. We try our best to balance hard work with good, old-fashioned fun. As aSoftware Engineering Manager with Leadpages, there are extra specialties we’re on the lookout for:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent education
  • 5+ years of development experience (preferably in Python and/or Javascript/Typescript/React.js)
  • 2+ years of managing engineering teams
  • 3+ years of SaaS product experience
  • Experience with large scale applications in a cloud platform, with preferred experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Success at participating in cross-functional engineering teams; naturally collaborative but decisive when needed
  • Ability to manage technical projects and schedules in a rapid-growth environment, to coordinate successful/timely releases and achieve quality objectives
  • Provide demonstrated leadership and stellar people-management and conflict-resolution skills
  • Strong communication skills, analytical skills and a thorough understanding of software engineering
  • Experience in leading delivery teams in agile software engineering practices
  • Ability to convincingly articulate complex analytical ideas in a simple way to a variety of key stakeholders from different functions
  • Experience working with people across different geographies, including remote management of people and deliverables
