Position Summary:
Pareto Health is seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Underwriter to join our team. This role is pivotal in assessing and managing the risks associated with self-funded health plans, using stoploss insurance. The ideal candidate will bring 2-3 years of experience in analyzing complex health risks and crafting stoploss strategies that align with our commitment to providing innovative and cost-effective healthcare solutions to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough risk assessments of prospective captive members current health plans and funding arrangements to determine appropriate stop loss coverage levels and premiums.
- Analyze healthcare data, including claims and utilization patterns, to forecast potential risks and cost implications and support proposed underwriting position
- Effectively execute in an environment of incomplete information
- Understanding of competitive market dynamics and react appropriately
- Partner with account management to ensure appropriate pricing rationale is understood and messaged externally and consider consultant / customer dynamics
- Enhance your own skills around knowledge of medical treatments and projected costs in partnership with clinical risk team
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and legal requirements in all underwriting decisions and practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, actuarial science, or a related field; relevant professional certifications are a plus.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in stop loss underwriting, with a proven track record in handling complex health risks.
- Proficiency in underwriting software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and solve underwriting challenges.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
- Strong team player, capable of working effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
- Understanding of stop loss products;self-funding, healthcare industry trends, and regulatory landscape
