What do we do?

Paddle offers SaaS companies a completely different approach to their payment infrastructure. Instead of assembling and maintaining a complex stack of payments-related apps and services, we’re a Merchant of Record for our customers. That means we take away 100% of the pain of payment fragmentation. It’s faster, safer, cheaper, and, above all, way better. We’re backed by investors including KKR, FTV Capital, Kindred, Notion, and 83North and serve over 3000 software sellers in 245 territories globally.

The role:

As a Senior Software Engineer within our Payments Platform team, you'll play a key role in both maintaining and developing our critical checkout, tax, and payment systems. You'll take the lead on tasks related to discovering new features and planning their implementation. Additionally, you'll be actively involved in new projects, providing valuable technical expertise and shaping the future of our payments platform. This role will involve contributing to the maintenance and evolution of our backend services.

You'll be responsible for the ongoing development and improvement of our checkout service built with Laravel and other Go services related to payments and tax. While experience with Go is a plus, we're open to enthusiastic PHP developers who are eager to learn Go and contribute to its codebase.

Tech stack:

  • PHP and Laravel for checkout and our legacy system

  • Go for our new services

  • Docker in production and local development

  • gRPC for internal services running on AWS Fargate

  • AWS lambda for event-based services

  • AWS SQS for our asynchronous message queues

  • MySQL and Postgres for persistent data storage

  • Redis for key/value store

  • Terraform and Cloudformation for infrastructure management

What you'll do:

  • Develop high traffic APIs used by hundreds of thousands users per month

  • Engineer high-performance background workers for consuming queues

  • Practise DevOps, you’re responsible for getting your code to production and supporting it

  • Use the latest AWS services available to run your code

  • Help design a stable platform to support phenomenal growth

  • Mentoring and coaching other engineers

  • Play a part in an agile team, either kanban or scrum as needed

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • You have a development background with PHP

  • You have some experience in Go or you are eager to learn it

  • You have experience designing and building systems to handle high traffic at scale in a cloud-based environment in AWS

  • You enjoy collaborating with our technical and non-technical departments

  • You proactively find ways to improve the code and team processes

  • You have a strong understanding of the development process - from design through to deployment, maintenance, and what that means for day-to-day development

  • You take pride in what you build

  • You are interested in what new tools and techniques you could introduce to us!

Hundreds of companies rely on our e-commerce platform to sell their software products globally, as well as our powerful analytics and marketing tools to understand and grow their businesses. Our vision is to become the platform that all software companies use to run and grow their business. We aim to replace a fragmented ecosystem of specialised tools with a unified platform that removes the complex burden that comes with running a software business, whilst also providing unparalleled insight to help them grow faster.
