About the role
We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Senior Counsel / Head of Legal to join our Legal, Regulatory and Compliance team on a fixed term basis for 12+ months. You will be responsible for the whole range of legal issues that arise in a fast-paced, high growth, tech scale up, with a focus on commercial advice.
What you'll be doing
- Drafting and negotiating a broad range of complex commercial agreements, partnership agreements and licences
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with GDPR and associated rules
- Providing legal support to our subsidiaries (including our European teams)
- Working closely with our product teams as our product offering evolves
- Supporting our editorial team who produce YouTube videos
- Providing legal support to the People team on employment law issues
- Working with our external advisors on IP portfolio management and oversight
- Managing our FCA regulated activities (with support from external advisors), and liaising with regulators (FCA, ASA) when required
- Working with our external advisors on IP portfolio management and oversight
- Overseeing company wide insurance policies (with support from the finance team)
- Guiding the legal team, managing the work flow through our legal Helpdesk, and mentoring our trainee
- Providing the GC with ad hoc support on regular corporate law issues, including M&A and funding rounds, and
- Assisting our General Counsel as required
What you'll need

- We’re looking for an English qualified lawyer with commercial and data protection experience
- We envisage that candidates between 6 and 9 years PQE will have the relevant skills / knowledge for this position, however this is an approximate guide for applicants and we are happy to consider the applications of candidates who fall outside of this PQE range but who have the relevant experience
- You will need the ability to grasp new legal concepts quickly and to distil and explain them in a clear and easy to understand way
- You will need to be able to work in a fast paced environment, with teams that move quickly
- Strong communication skills are essential, together with a proactive, persuasive and adaptable manner
- Strong understanding of GDPR
- You will be used to independent working and thinking
