What is special about this role:


Helix partners with top-tier health systems and academic medical centers through its flagship population genomics research program, the Helix Research Network, to drive discovery and breakthroughs in genomics. We are seeking an Associate Director of Research Administration to provide strategic leadership and direction for research administration at Helix and to oversee research operations for the Helix Research Network across multiple research sites and teams. As the Associate Director of Research Administration, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of genomics research at Helix and across the country, with the chance to be both strategic and innovative in designing, administering, and leading population health research.In this role, you will have substantial leadership opportunities. You will work directly with both the VP of Legal and the Chief Privacy Officer and Head of Compliance, and collaborate with the broader Legal, Privacy & Compliance Team and G&A staff to support your personal and professional development. You will also work cross-functionally with Helix’s science, research, engineering, marketing, commercial and product teams as the lead subject matter expert on research administration at Helix.

As Associate Director of Research Administration, you will:


  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the research administration team and other teams supporting the Helix Research Network at Helix
  • Ensure research activities are aligned with Helix's goals and objectives
  • Own the research planning and administration process from top to bottom
  • Oversee the operation and administration of the Helix Research Network, including coordinating activities across multiple research sites and teams, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and guidelines, and optimizing research processes and workflows
  • Organize and oversee governance committees for the Helix Research Network
  • Engage with external research partners, including health system research leaders, regulatory experts, and program leaders, to ensure effective partnerships, foster collaboration and facilitate the exchange of ideas and resources
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on regulatory issues and drive teams towards mutually beneficial decisions
  • Develop and maintain research project documentation, including protocols, standards, policies, FAQs, and governance documents
  • Manage IRB submissions and communications and monitoring activities related to the Helix Research Network
  • Design and develop protocols for new research initiatives and projects

About you:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of research experience, including 4+ years of experience managing large research programs or networks involving multiple sites and teams and 2+ years of experience leading clinical research in a clinical setting or at an academic medical center, including responsibility for supervising research staff 
  • Prior experience coordinating or leading studies involving genomic data 
  • Prior experience with research registries and a solid understanding of the principles governing secondary use of biospecimens and data
  • Adept at building partnerships, quickly establishing rapport, and collaborating with others to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Skilled at influencing and persuading internal and external stakeholders and driving decision making in highly matrixed environments
  • In-depth knowledge of ICH-GCP and FDA and OHRP regulations and a thorough understanding of research procedures
  • Strong writing and presentation skills 
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and advise on matters involving ambiguity and in-flight strategy
  • Strong desire to improve processes and drive efficiency and repeatability in operations
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves, dive in, and take care of tasks large and small; must enjoy spending time in the weeds and at the 30,000 foot level

Pluses:


  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling, Genomics, Health Care Administration or a related field
  • Experience working in a genomics or biotechnology-related field is a plus
  • Experience working with or for industry sponsors, including biotech and pharmaceutical companies
  • Certification in Healthcare Research Compliance through HCCA or willingness to obtain certification within 12 months of start date

Expected Helix Base: $162,000 - $250,000 Expected Helix Discretionary Annual Bonus: x% of your annual salaryEquity: We offer generous equity at Helix. If you receive a Helix offer your recruiter will book dedicated time with you to educate you on our equity model.The salary range above is our reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role across US locations. Actual starting pay will be based on non-discriminatory job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.

What To Expect During Your Onboarding Week:


We want to make sure your first week is spent learning the foundations. You will be invited to live orientation sessions and spend time with your hiring manager developing your individual roadmap to success. This experience will include sessions that cover your benefits, security & privacy training, an introduction to the OKR framework used at Helix and our communication tools and norms. 

What To Expect During Your First 90 days:


First 30 days:  you’ll spend time learning the Helix way, completing training and onboarding for your roles, and getting introduced to your team and relevant stakeholders.
