Job Description
Y Combinator is seeking a Fund Accountant to assist with the day-to-day accounting of the firm’s venture capital funds. This is an ideal position for a self-starter with a strong work ethic and desire to learn who wants to be an integral part of a Finance team at a unique venture capital firm. The ideal candidate is exceedingly well organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working in a very fast-paced, “hands-on” type of environment. The ability to interact with numerous stakeholders and teams, maintain a high level of professionalism, and safeguard the confidential nature of information is crucial to this role. Our Fund Accountant must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area and is expected to work from our San Francisco office a minimum of 1 - 2 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
Record investments and certain fund-level transactions in our accounting system and database
Prepare financial statements quarterly for multiple entities
Process invoices and initiate wires
Perform bank reconciliations
Assist with the annual audit process and work with our external auditors
Track various portfolio and partnership performance metrics
Assist in responding to inquiries from limited partners
Work on special projects
Requirements:

Strong critical thinking: you’re able to problem solve and know when to ask questions
Detail-oriented and good organizational skills
Skills:
Proficient understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles (preferred)
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Strong aptitude for numbers and accuracy
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
Experience:
Asset management experience preferred
1+ year of public accounting, private industry, or fund administrator experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or CPA candidate
Compensation: $90,000 to $120,000 base salary (depending on skills and experience) plus bonus.
