Job Description


Y Combinator is seeking a Fund Accountant to assist with the day-to-day accounting of the firm’s venture capital funds. This is an ideal position for a self-starter with a strong work ethic and desire to learn who wants to be an integral part of a Finance team at a unique venture capital firm.  The ideal candidate is exceedingly well organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working in a very fast-paced, “hands-on” type of environment. Our Fund Accountant must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area and is expected to work from our San Francisco office a minimum of 1 - 2 days a week.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Record investments and certain fund-level transactions in our accounting system and database  

  • Prepare financial statements quarterly for multiple entities

  • Process invoices and initiate wires

  • Perform bank reconciliations

  • Assist with the annual audit process and work with our external auditors

  • Track various portfolio and partnership performance metrics

  • Assist in responding to inquiries from limited partners

  • Work on special projects

Requirements:



  • Independent: you must be able to work autonomously and efficiently 

  • Accountable: you take ownership of tasks assigned to you

  • Proactive: you’re aware of deadlines and anticipate next steps without needing to be told

  • Strong critical thinking: you’re able to problem solve and know when to ask questions

  • Detail-oriented and good organizational skills

Skills:


  • Proficient understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles (preferred)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

  • Strong aptitude for numbers and accuracy

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

Experience:



  • Asset management experience preferred

  • 1+ year of public accounting, private industry, or fund administrator experience preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or CPA candidate

Compensation: $90,000 to $120,000 base salary (depending on skills and experience) plus bonus. Benefits: Our full benefits package includes medical, vision, and dental plans, infertility benefit, STD/LTD, life insurance, commuter benefits, flexible spending account, health savings account, 401(k) + 4% matching, generous parental leave, paid holidays and flexible paid time off policy.
