Role overview
The Vice President of Legal will serve as a key leader in our organization, overseeing all legal matters, providing strategic legal guidance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. This role will involve staying abreast of the legal requirements in the rapidly changing space that we operate in, and collaborating closely with executive leadership to protect and advance the company's legal interests. You are a hands-on leader, who is a self-starter and experienced in banking and financial services, and ready for a new role that will empower you to play a critical role in shaping the company's legal strategy, managing risk, and supporting business growth.
What you’ll be doing
Navigate legal and regulatory requirements, operational issues, and related matters.
Ensure the company's compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in our space.
Oversee the development, implementation, and management of legal policies and procedures.
Advise senior management on legal risks and business strategies.
Manage and coordinate with external legal counsel as necessary.
Oversee and manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, across all stakeholders.
Stay up-to-date of changes in laws and regulations that could impact the company's operations and provide guidance on necessary adjustments.
Manage the legal department's budget, resources, and external legal counsel relationships.
Draft, negotiate, maintain and review a spectrum of corporate, commercial, and supplier agreements including but not limited to: CDAs/NDAs; MTAs; service agreements (both providing & receiving services); consulting agreements; supply agreements; instrument/method evaluation agreements; terms & conditions of sale; etc.
Assist our product organization in developing and implementing new features and products, including drafting customer agreements, disclosures, and related documentation.
What you have
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active license with a state bar and authorization to practice law in the state of New York.
Minimum of 7 years of in-house or firm experience in the consumer/commercial banking industry – Fintech/Earned Wage Access experience highly preferred.
Extensive knowledge of regulatory and compliance matters related to banking and financial services including fair lending, TILA, UDAAP.
Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
A bias toward action and solving problems, not just issue spotting.
The ability to take ownership over work and manage projects independently with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Proven ability to provide strategic legal advice and support to senior management.
Demonstrated success in efficiently resolving complex business issues by collaborating effectively across business units and internal functions.
Practical yet creative problem-solving approach, prioritizing business needs while safeguarding the company's interests with sound and practical business judgment.
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $200,000 - $250,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits for which an individual may be eligible. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
