About the role

What does the role look like?


The Head of Compliance will lead all Trust & Safety and Compliance efforts for Whop, building policy for efficiency and scalability as we grow.  The Head of Compliance will own strategy and operational delivery around policy, enforcement, and external partnerships.  You will represent and advocate for support needs with product development teams, policy, legal, design, and engineering teams within Whop.  You’ll be responsible for determining compliance requirements, analyzing processes and tools, and driving the delivery of efficient programs based on organizational goals and current operations.  The Head of compliance will ensure Product and Engineering teams have support and adequate guidance when designing and launching creator and community applications, and will support emergent, complex compliance and T&S needs.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams from Legal, Finance, Engineering, Product, Data Science, and Growth.Your first 90 days will look like the following:

First 30 Days:


  • Review terms of service and evaluate/redesign current processes.
  • Understand Trust & Safety processes and key metrics; identify key areas of improvement or re-evaluation.
  • Evaluate compliance team resourcing needs.
  • Meet with key stakeholders to gather insights and align on priorities.

First 60 Days:


  • Prepare and present a T&S monthly briefing memo for the executive team; host  meetings to discuss findings.
  • Begin executing TOS and T&S process improvements.
  • Present other compliance needs and develop a monthly roadmap through the end of the year.
  • Establish regular communication channels with the compliance and T&S teams.

First 90 Days:


  • Have compliance and T&S teams in place to support scale and process improvements through the end of the year.
  • Conduct a monthly review of the T&S initiatives and adjust plans as necessary.
  • Develop and implement a training program for the T&S and compliance teams.
  • Begin monitoring and reporting on the impact of the implemented improvements.

Who you are


  • You have built and managed trust and safety systems in a marketplace environment.
  • Created and maintained content moderation processes that adhere to defined policies.
  • Developed and implemented effective fraud detection and prevention strategies.
  • Managed payment processing systems, resolving disputes and handling chargebacks efficiently.
  • Handled disputes between sellers against the platform, platform against sellers and/or users, and between buyers and sellers in both directions. 
  • Ensured compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including managing government requests.
  • Identified and addressed compliance issues within your product features.
  • Worked closely with product, legal, and customer support teams to tackle trust and safety challenges.
  • Analyzed data to spot and mitigate potential trust and safety threats.
  • Experience managing large cross-functional projects and workshops.
  • Experience leading multiple global programs within a complex tech company. Experience working in a global setting with Product or Engineering leadership.
  • Track record of designing, owning, and improving resilient processes cutting across multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and presentation skills, with an exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and concrete action plans.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate between strategic business decisions and their operational implications.
  • Team player and a fast learner with a creative, empathetic, and fun attitude.
  • Extremely comfortable with ambiguity.

What you will be doing


  • Develop, refine, and operationalize Whop’s compliance policies (terms of service, trust and safety, content policy, and others) to ensure that they can be enforced consistently and at scale around the world.
  • Establish and execute on a strategic vision for the team and manage ongoing policy-related projects.
  • Build strong relationships with Product, Engineering, Growth, Finance, Legal and other partners and act as the Policy Consultant.
  • Oversee work to improve policies through audits, reviews, and in-depth research.
  • Oversee maintenance of feedback loops and ensuring intelligence is acted on.
  • Direct and manage the team’s workload, including prioritization and allocation of resources.
  • Provide coaching and support to Policy team personnel.
  • Act as a global escalation point of contact for policy questions and handle internal communications for policy issues.
  • Build and articulate policy strategy and changes to internal stakeholders.
  • Work cross functionally on user policy education initiatives.
  • Stay up to date with recent trends in content policy and moderation.

Qualifications


  • 7+ years of Compliance, Trust & Safety or other relevant experience, at least 5 years in Trust & Safety Policy.
  • You must be a very strong communicator. 
  • A strong fundamental understanding of how payments work.
  • Solid understanding of how policy decisions impact both products and operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent cross-functional project management skills with a strong history of collaboration with Legal, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and keep up with a large volume of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of working with both in-house moderation and escalations teams, as well as external partner teams.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks/timelines at once with extreme attention to detail, navigate ambiguity and is passionate about safety policy as a subject matter.
