REGENT is building the seaglider; the first electric flying machine that will transport commercial passengers. With a vehicle that never flies higher than a few meters off the water, we unlock the ability to fly twice as far as an electric aircraft, and certification by maritime authorities which will let us fly first passengers by mid-decade.
We are backed by the world’s best investors: the same investors who are behind SpaceX, Anduril, and Boom Supersonic, in addition to strategic investors like Lockheed Martin, Japan Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines. We have over $9B in orders from some of the industry’s largest operators and are hard at work getting our full-scale, human-carrying prototype on the water next year. As a Senior Controls Systems Engineer, you’ll be designing, implementing, verifying, and validating control systems for REGENT’s seagliders.
These all-electric, wing-in-ground effect craft will have novel control challenges due to their multiple operational modes: hull-borne, hydrofoil-borne, and wing-born.This position will involve leveraging the interplay between hydrodynamic controls, aerodynamic controls, and distributed propulsion controls. You will utilize high-fidelity simulations and vehicle testing to validate and verify your control systems.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and develop specifications
- Lead the implementation and commissioning of control systems, including hardware and software integration
- Develop verification and validation procedures and test plans
- Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them
- Develop and maintain control system documentation, including schematics, specifications, interfaces, and software code
- Responsible for staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and to drive continuous improvement and innovation
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- 8+ years of experience developing control systems in the aviation industry
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, control systems engineering, or related engineering discipline with focus on control systems
- Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink
- Strong cause-and-effect problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in control system design and troubleshooting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience in developing and executing Hardware-in-the-Loop tests to validate control systems
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- PhD in complex, non-linear flight control systems design
- Modeling and simulation of vehicle plants
- C/C++ Embedded software development experience
- Development of safety-critical components under ARP4754A
- DO-178C or DO-254 development processes
- Knowledge in ADS-33F-PRF, SAE-AS94900, or MIL-STD-1797 Standards
- Flight test or sea trials experience
Bonus Points:
- FAA pilot’s license or boating/sailing experience
