We're looking for a mission-driven Intern, Learning Academy who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.

Your Impact at CNIB


  • Assist Learning Academy staff with all aspects of planning, implementing and evaluating Primary Explorers, Young Achievers, and SCORE Scholars programs.
  • Plan and implement activities and guest speakers to support good mental health practices, social interaction skills, effective communication, and other skill areas.
  • Assist staff with all aspects of planning and implementing children and youth day programming, and some virtual evening programs.
  • Assist in the creation of a safe spaces promoting participant diversity and inclusion.
  • Support the application and registration processes for summer programs.
  • Complete various administrative tasks including but not limited to certificate production, preparing expense reports, budget tracking, time and attendance records, and file collection and management.
  • Liaise with families, participants, and other stakeholders regarding summer programming.
  • Assist staff with recruiting and training volunteers.

Education and Certifications


  • Degree or diploma in related field, or equivalent work experience.

Experience and Qualifications


  • Excellent professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Zoom and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven organization and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be mature and responsible.
  • Able to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing sight loss.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit community resources is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of technical aids and devices for people with vision loss is an asset. 
  • Able to travel independently within the region via public transit or car (taxi, Uber etc.)
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Eligibility


Due to funding, the successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment.
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
  • Post-secondary student preferred.
  • You are a pursuing a related field of study: social services, health studies, child and youth studies, disability studies, administration, communications, technology, customer service.

Work Environment


  • Live in a residential environment during the SCORE Scholars program from July 13 to July 27, 2024 in Toronto.
  • In-person or remote work on all other dates, as required by circumstance.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Occasional travel within the region
