We believe that the future of transportation is automated. Automated travel will be safer, more comfortable, more efficient and a powerful economic enabler for our communities. However, automating driving is a massively complex engineering challenge, requiring vehicles to navigate social norms, regional traffic patterns, unpredictable weather incidents, and a host of anomalous events. While billions of dollars have already been spent trying to solve this problem, a comprehensive answer remains frustratingly elusive. We believe that the final answer lies with roadway infrastructure.
Join us in building the roads of the future. Cavnue, which in April 2022 announced the closing of its Series A at $130M, is bridging technology and road infrastructure to realize a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future for automated transportation. Cavnue’s experienced team sits at the intersection of technology, infrastructure, and government—working together to develop and deploy the world’s most advanced roads. We are incorporating physical and digital infrastructure that unlock the full spectrum of capabilities of current and future automated vehicle technologies.
We believe in a world in which road infrastructure shares in the complexity of autonomy and, instead of being another problem to solve for, becomes a core part of the solution.
The Role:
Cavnue is pioneering an innovative approach, combining purpose-built civil infrastructure with our world-class technology platform to enhance the safety and efficiency of our roadways while enabling a future where automated driving systems to operate in the mainstream. We believe the civil infrastructure and the built road environment are critical pillars to unlocking safe and autonomous mobility. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be integral to our Systems Engineering team, leading efforts to define, develop, test, verify, and validate our systems, particularly focusing on the civil and physical aspects of our system.
As a Senior Civil Systems Engineer, you will:
- Lead the definition and lifecycle management of engineering requirements in collaboration with product and multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Lead the tradespace exploration of engineering designs for Cavnue’s civil infrastructure, ensuring the alignment and integration of the civil solutions and digital roadside technology.
- Spearhead the long-term strategy for scaling Cavnue’s physical deployments across a network of roadways.
- Drive the creation of Concepts of Operations with our customers and develop civil systems engineering artifacts in collaboration with other Systems Engineering Leads, Business Development, Product Management, and other Engineering functions.
- Assist in creating cost and performance models to evaluate various engineering designs.
- Interact with industry standards bodies and maintain the source of truth for these standards within the company.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Civil Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3+ years of direct Systems Engineering experience, and at least 6+ years of total experience in Civil Engineering, ITS Engineering, or other relevant disciplines.
- Proven experience in building infrastructure and technology projects from concept to completion.
- Experience working across various engineering disciplines, ideally managing entire systems or multiple subsystems.
- Expertise in generating civil engineering design options and conducting trade studies to evaluate and prioritize these options.
- Experience working with customers and developing Concept of Operations documents or similar artifacts for external audiences.
- Proficiency with industry-standard Civil and Transportation engineering tools such as ArcGIS and AutoCAD.
Bonus Points:
- Experience working on safety-critical and/or high-reliability systems.
- Experience with Requirements Management software, such as Jama.
- Experience developing roadway or other digital technology systems that interface with civil infrastructure at edge.
- Experience with simulation, building models, and running traffic simulation studies.
- Early-stage start-up experience.
