Job Summary:


Senior Software Engineer This position at Data Society will entail a variety of software engineering skills related to full-stack development in support of data-centric tasks and building scalable systems. You will be part of a small engineering and data science team primarily focused on supporting one of our major customers; when not engaged in a customer facing project, you will also build and maintain internally facing products. Experience and/or education in electrical engineering, working with SCADA applications, signal processing or a related discipline is strongly preferred for this role.

Responsibilities:


  • Design and assemble from a blank slate the full stack solutions that will support our internal and external customers.
  • Analyze, design and develop tests and test-automation suites. Work with cloud, distributed computing, DevOps, containerization with Docker, CI/CD, provide support to our data science team that usually works in data-centric environments using Python and other languages.
  • Use a variety of team productivity tools like Jira and Slack internally, and flexibility to use other tools that customers utilize for their operations.
  • Design, develop, and test systems using various configuration management technologies.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, business users, project managers and other engineers to create elegant solutions.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Work alongside other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices.
  • Comply with CMMC and ISO privacy and quality standards.

Skillset:


  • An array of languages and tools that enable both backend and frontend support (e.g. Python, Java, JavaScript, React), as well as shell scripting (e.g. bash, powershell) and familiarity with both Unix-based systems and Windows servers.
  • Relational database development, schema design.
  • Ability to independently seek out and learn new technologies and platforms.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JSON.
  • Interest in learning how to work with data-centric applications.
  • Ability and interest in learning cloud technologies (AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Experience with using and creating REST APIs.
  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to connect with other teams and team members; build relationships, not just tools.
  • Experience and/or education in electrical engineering, working with SCADA applications, signal processing or a related discipline is strongly preferred for this role.

The ideal candidate is local to Richmond, VA or the DC metro area and able to meet a criminal history search. U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance is a requirement. In addition to that, the ideal candidate is to demonstrate education or experience in electrical engineering, working with SCADA applications or a related field and is local and willing to travel to a client site regularly. Current salary range is $110,000-$120,000 though we are open to negotiation. This position is eligible for full benefits including health, medical, dental, short and long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as our 401k, transit subsidy, unlimited PTO, and 17 paid holidays during 2024.
