Who You Are:
Storyblocks is seeking a people and process-driven engineering leader to join our executive leadership team. Successful candidates will have extensive technical leadership in subscription-based eCommerce and B2B SaaS businesses, proven ability to manage and develop engineering talent, and executive-level presence and experience. This role reports to the CEO and can be based anywhere in the U.S.
What You Will Do:
- Lead the Engineering team & function
- Lead a team of 35+ engineers, employing clear principles for how you recruit, manage, and develop diverse and high-performing talent
- Operate as a player-coach - we are a lean team playing in an industry with large established players and our leaders’ ability and willingness to roll up their sleeves when required is a competitive advantage
- Drive continuous improvement and change management to realize our goal of becoming a world-class engineering organization
- Provide technical leadership
- Drive Storyblocks’ long-term technical strategy and daily operations
- Establish the processes, systems, and technical infrastructure needed to achieve key performance metrics and service-level agreements - this includes site performance, observability, automated testing, bug escalation processes, sprint planning, and more
- Actively participate in design reviews, architecture and technology discussions, and retrospectives
- Drive eCommerce excellence
- Bring a deep understanding of eCommerce best practices and bridge engineering objectives with business goals
- Define the technical vision and drive the execution to build a modern, highly performant eCommerce engine that drives customer acquisition and retention
- Deliver goals and business results
- Take accountability via milestones and OKRs for both the outputs and outcomes
- Deliver milestones, projects, key metrics and business results on time and on budget
- Maintain and improve the content portal through which we ingest content from and pay our stock media contributors
- Ensure a high quality product experience for all individual and business prospects and customers
- Drive strategic alignment with the business
- As a member of the executive management team, you will partner with other department heads to deliver on company priorities and financial targets
- Create and maintain processes that align and manage stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Earn the trust of external stakeholders through consistent, dependable technical insight that helps to propel the business forward
What You Bring to the Table:
- 15+ years of Engineering Leadership, combined with a previous VP role of managing an engineering team at or above our current scale
- Experience leading an Engineering team building products in a fast-paced, data-driven, sometimes reactive environment
- Demonstrated ability to articulate and execute technological investments to drive business outcomes
- Track record of driving change and building a world-class engineering team that values performance, observability and automated testing
- Ability to operate across multiple levels of responsibility: strategic and at the ground level. Ability to define and execute a vision for the engineering team
- Experience with cloud security best practices and compliance frameworks (i.e. PCI DSS, SOC-2)
- E-commerce product experience
- Familiar with the following technologies: AWS, K8s, ML, Databricks

- Competitive and fair compensation: We believe in fair pay--equal pay for equal work. For each title, we consistently apply competitive salary bands based on market data and benchmarks which are reviewed twice a year. What you’ve been paid before, fear of conflict, or willingness to negotiate does not play a part in determining your pay.
The annual base salary range for this position is $299,000 - $334,000. Placement within the range is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, and equity with internal team members. Total compensation for this position includes an annual performance bonus and equity. - 401(k) retirement plan: We offer both a Traditional and Roth 401(k) with a company match.
