The Center for Global Development (CGD), an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, DC seeks a Senior Program Coordinator for the Sustainable Development Finance (SDF) Program. The
SDF research program focuses on the following questions: How can the international financial system generate sufficient funding for development and climate-related investments? How should finance be allocated to best help countries meet the SDGs and confront global challenges, such as climate change and pandemics? How can finance most effectively mobilize private capital, achieve significant impact, and keep debt levels sustainable? How can domestic resources be mobilized within developing countries? And how should international financial institutions evolve to engage more effectively with country partners and collaborate as a system?We are seeking a Senior Program Manager to support the strategic and functional agenda of the SDF program.
The Senior Program Manager will assist the program director in all aspects of management of the SDF program. This will include the development and communication of the program’s work plan; outreach strategies to increase the visibility and impact of the program’s activities; the day-to-day execution of the multi-year plan for the work of the program; hiring and recruitment of SDF staff; managing consultant contracts; overseeing training and travel expenses; assisting in reports to funders and in writing funding proposals; and monitoring and tracking budget including personnel, expenses, and funding sources.The successful candidate will have experience in managing large and complex programs, strong experience with grants management and donor relations, excellent organizational and communication skills and an understanding of current issues related to international development and/or sustainable finance is desired.
Responsibilities include:
Program management
- Leading planning, budgeting, coordination, and implementation to achieve the program’s strategic goals.
- Assisting the program director, providing support in complex program management and execution of day-to-day functions, operations, and results.
- Jointly accountable with the program director for management of program budgets, impact and success.
- Providing regular guidance and supervision to associate staff to ensure that program materials and plans are updated regularly in Salesforce.
- Mobilizing financial resources and support for the program and its staff in close coordination and cooperation with fundraising staff and CGD leadership.
- Reporting to funders on work progress and products in coordination with fundraising staff.
- Managing SDF recruitment, hiring, and staff training.
- Overseeing the design of all contracts with subcontracted partners and consultants, monitoring performance of partners and leading on contractual negotiations, as required.
Communications and outreach
- Assisting the Director with program communication and outreach activities, in collaboration with the Communications team, including engagement with external stakeholders and partners.
- Engaging in related outreach activities, including events/convenings and interacting with key individuals in the donor and policy communities.
- Developing and nurturing productive working relationships with key external stakeholders and partners in the development policy community.
- Collaborating with the communications team to develop products, relevant program materials and to plan events.
- Collaborating with the fundraising team on building funding partnerships.
- Tracking policy developments in UK and European development policy, and on climate finance policy.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field required, though a relevant Master’s degree is desirable.
- Demonstrable experience in managing large, complex programs, ideally in an international development organization, with proven ability to manage competing priorities and a wide range of stakeholders.
- Significant experience of grant management and donor relations and cultivation.
- Understanding the current issues and debates related to the sustainable development finance policies and institutions.
- Proven ability to act with a high degree of autonomy and make decisions to deliver projects to a high standard, in budget and to tight deadlines.
- A working knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
- Proven ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment. An ability to see ahead and think strategically is essential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as high level organizational skills with methodical approach to tasks and excellent attention to detail.
- Must have the right to live and work in the US.
Salary range - $75,800 - $86,000 annually. Pay commensurate with education, skillset, and experience.

The organization is working hybrid will all staff required to be in the office two days per week. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
