Prometheus Federal Services (PFS), a trusted partner to federal healthcare agencies, is currently seeking part time GTA’s to support the Veterans Health Administration’s Office of Women’s Health in executing up to three (3) mini-residency training events per year. All training events will be held in Chicago, IL at the Simulation and Integrative Learning Institute (SAIL). This role is for events in July and August 2024.
Background
Prometheus Federal Services (PFS), in collaboration with University of Illinois Chicago, will support the Veterans Health Administration’s Office of Women’s Health in executing up to three (3) mini-residency training events per year. Each training event will be covered over a period of two (2) consecutive days, where GTA attendance will be required for up to 10 hours each day. The trainings will provide VHA participants (physicians and nurses) the opportunity to attend lectures on Women’s Health topics, demonstrate knowledge and skills in small group settings (including case-based discussions and partial task trainer activities), and engage in high fidelity simulation- based learning with gynecologic teaching associates (GTAs). All training events will be held in Chicago, IL at the Simulation and Integrative Learning Institute (SAIL).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Each training event will be covered over a period of two (2) consecutive days, where GTA attendance will be required for up to 10 hours each day. The trainings will provide VHA participants (physicians and nurses) the opportunity to attend lectures on Women’s Health topics, demonstrate knowledge and skills in small group settings (including case-based discussions and partial task trainer activities), and engage in high fidelity simulation- based learning with gynecologic teaching associates (GTAs).
Instruction and Examinations
- The GTAs will be required to attend one GTA orientation for each training event and view VHA-endorsed exam videos PRIOR TO orientation day to ensure instruction is in alignment with VA-endorsed practices. There will be a one hour debrief session after each training day.
- The GTAs will assist providers with a breast and pelvic examination.
- The GTA’s shall engage each participant in a supportive and encouraging manner, develop a rapport and display professionalism in a guiding and non-threatening way that will enhance the training experience.
- The GTAs shall provide each participant with formative, summative and qualitative feedback that is in alignment with VHA policies and commonly accepted practices to ensure consistency across the learner’s experiences.
- Maximum Exams per GTA – The maximum exams per GTA will be 6 to ensure the safety of the GTA. GTA requirements will vary depending on training session type. These providers will each perform one (1) speculum and bimanual exam to demonstrate skills necessary to conduct a Pap or sexually transmitted infection specimen collection (no actual specimen will be collected).

- Training Event #1: July 9-10, 2024
- Training Event #2: August 6-7, 2024
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 unaltered breast (piercing acceptable).
- A uterus (presence of intrauterine device acceptable).
- At least 1 ovary.
- No health issues that could further spread a communicable disease through execution of the simulation scenario.
- The GTA must be able to provide up to six (6) complete breast and pelvic exams, to occur between the hours of 10:30am to 8:30pm for each training event.
- Must have at least 1 year experience and training in using their own bodies as models to teach breast and pelvic examination without the assistance of faculty and providing immediate verbal feedback on examination technique in a supportive environment for skill development and practice.
- Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills as demonstrated in past performance. This includes the ability to effectively communicate, listen to others, work collaboratively, function autonomously, adapt to changes in the work environment, respond to internal and external customer needs and expectations in a positive manner and problem-solve.
- Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
- Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship indefinitely.
