Director of Project Management
, you'll be responsible for successfully leading Insomniac Design’s project management team by setting departmental standards and processes, guiding the professional growth of the team, and ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership skills, a deep understanding of project management methodologies, and extensive experience overseeing complex digital projects. You will be expected to have a high level of technical knowledge throughout the product design and development life cycle.
The Director of Project Management is a key member of the leadership team and will directly contribute to overall business strategy.
General Responsibilities:
- Expected to have a significant impact within and beyond the department or division, leading and overseeing strategic initiatives.
- Extensive expertise and serves as a trusted advisor in specialized areas, providing guidance on complex technical, strategic, or creative challenges.
- Able to navigate and resolve ambiguous situations, identifying innovative solutions and adapting strategies to address evolving business needs.
- Leads through others to drive the improvement and implementation of impactful product, process, automation and/or work methodologies, improving efficiency and effectiveness beyond their department.
- Leads the design and optimization of departmental processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and driving continuous improvement.
- Provides strong leadership to the team, mentors managers and senior team members, and fosters a culture of collaboration and growth.
Responsibilities:
- Grow, manage, and develop the project management team. Lead project and program level reporting processes, own production of reports to track project performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Guide and oversee PM team members in the management of client project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Lead discussions with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and deliverables.
- Assist project managers to effectively allocate resources, prioritize workload, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the production and delivery of key project documentation such as requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Produce executive-level project status reports on behalf of the team. Contribute to client growth and retention by setting and meeting performance goals, measured through KPIs.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and excellence in project delivery.
- People management responsibilities include, but are not limited to, hiring, coaching and mentoring, professional development, problem solving, evaluation, and performance management.
Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience managing enterprise-level software delivery projects.
- 3+ years of experience managing a team of project managers within a digital agency or technical consulting firm.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex digital product development projects from inception to completion.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to think strategically and adapt to changing priorities.
- Highly knowledgeable in the product design and development lifecycle.
- Expert understanding of project management methodologies, such as PMI certification, evidence of creating best practices, and experience using and implementing project management software.
- Demonstrated application of Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
- Technical knowledge of human-centered design and development, accessibility, and UX best practices. Business acumen specific to budget planning and review, scope management, resource allocation, and forecasting.
- Ability to travel 5-10% both domestically and internationally.
