Position Description
Origis is seeking a Director PV Energy & Performance whose primary responsibility will be modeling, analyzing, and optimizing plant performance for utility solar plus energy storage projects through all stages of the development lifecycle. The responsibility includes the technical evaluation of solar equipment and implementation of QA/QC programs for PV modules. This individual, reporting to the Sr. Director of Performance Engineering, will be a subject matter expert on our growing solar performance engineering team.The Director PV Energy & Performance is a regular, full-time position, and is eligible for our generous employee benefits package, including employer paid health insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions, and other great benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Management of PV production estimates for early to late-stage developments and proposals
- Work cross functionally to drive design optimization and identify project risks and mitigations
- Collaborate with technical and procurement teams to efficiently model and assess equipment optionality
- Perform technical due diligence on PPA documentation and M&A activities to support contract negotiation
- Participate in the review of EPC contractual exhibits and redlines to ensure alignment with energy model inputs and facility performance expectations
- Contribute to process development and initiatives aimed at furthering modeling team capabilities and accuracy
- Track and manage workflow of solar modeling team and proactively work with internal stakeholders to manage their expectations
- Implement QA/QC programs for the PV modules and the vendors manufacturing processes
- Works across the organization and with IE’s and OE’s to achieve consensus in the target energy outputs for the solar and solar plus storage projects
- Provide project ASTM-based performance testing support and troubleshooting technical input if underperformance is identified or suspected
- Track performance tasks and deadlines during project initial energization and commissioning through substantial completion and handover to O&M
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience in solar energy modeling and optimization. Position may be filled at Sr. Manager level with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of solar resource data sources, system loss factors, and competency in modeling tools and best practices for utility scale PV system production assessments
- Demonstrated high proficiency in PVsyst is a must. PVcase, Python, PVLIB, MS Excel experience a plus
- Deep understanding of PV technology such as PV modules, inverters, and SAT racking
- Experience with PV project ASTM-based performance testing protocols desired
- Experience in implementing QA/QC program of PV modules desired
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is a plus
