Leveraging advanced technology and data science, the company has developed customized proprietary products to better fit consumer requirements, enhance customer satisfaction, and take some of the guesswork and inefficiencies out of buying insurance.We are searching for a Software Engineering Manager to lead one of our software teams, be responsible for ensuring that the team meets commitments made to the business, and implement code according to the specified technical architecture. When implementation complications arise, you are able to recommend paths forward; whether it involves tweaks to the technical architecture or adjusting business requirements. You will be an integral part of the Engineering Leadership structure as the point-person between the Engineers “on the ground” and the business.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the engineering team’s day-to-day activities so that implementation commitments are delivered on or ahead of schedule- Collaborate with our Consultants, Solutions Architects, Business Analysts, and UX - Designers to ensure that the engineering team delivers what our clients need and want.- Review technical architecture documentation for the project and ensure that the engineering team’s deliverables are implemented accordingly- Identify and convey technical considerations, risks, and trade-offs- Contribute to the engineering team’s implementation efforts- Ensure that the code you deliver has an extremely high level of quality and an extremely low potential for defects that will surface in the production environments- Author documentation of your code that is useful for your team members and other members of Engineering- Dive into code with engineers as technical challenges arise- Develop proofs of concepts as needed- Train internal resources on technical topics- Mentor engineers in best practices, technical knowledge, and collaboration- Act as the scrum master for the engineering team
Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar engineering major4+ years of experience in a technical leadership role (e.g. Lead Engineer/Developer or Team Lead)5+ years of experience as a Software EngineerExperience engineering in linux and/or MacOS environmentsExperience engineering with an SQL-based relational database systemExperience engineering a SaaS product/platformExperience engineering a cloud-based architectureExperience engineering with containersExperience engineering with design patternsExperience engineering with a CI pipelineExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience working as a member of a highly-collaborative engineering teamUS citizenship or authorization to work in the US
