The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the procurement of components, parts, supplies, equipment, and services as required by production and part sales. The Purchasing Agent coordinates his or her efforts with warehouse and internal parts making in order to maintain the appropriate level of inventory. This individual utilizes product knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most favorable combination of price, delivery and quality, while simultaneously building and maintaining relationships with key suppliers. Other tasks include resolving issues pertaining to material defects, invoice discrepancies and delivery timelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES1. Meet the demand for procurement by issuing POs for goods, materials, and services for inventory, production, and part sales in a timely and cost-effective manner.2. Prepare and administer requests for quotes, requests for proposal, requests for information, travelers, and work closely with suppliers both internal & external.3. Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers.4. Identify and approve new suppliers and maintain the approved supplier database.5. Contact suppliers regarding errors in partial or duplicate shipments, prices, and substitutions.6.

Identify discrepancies between shipments and orders and take action. Communicate all delays or variances of inbound freight to the appropriate parties.7. Communicate with the warehouse to ensure rapid delivery and reception of goods and/or services.8. Receive and handle confirmations from vendors; verify that the information on the confirmation is for agreed-upon prices, products, shipment date, and shipping method. 9. Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies using diplomacy and tact with vendors and service providers.

Coordinate with AP.10. Remain up to date on pricing trends, changes, and restrictions that could affect purchasing.11. Advise of lead times required to obtain products or services and expedite where required.12. Make recommendations and suggest options regarding material shortages.13. Negotiate return of items to vendors and coordinate subsequent credits or replacements.14. Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.15. Adhere to and enforce compliance with purchasing policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.16.

Attend team meetings to provide assistance in resolving issues, reviewing progress and ensuring assignment of new tasks17. Actively participate in identifying areas of opportunity and barriers for effective performance18. Manage inbound freight of purchases19. Practice safe work procedures at all times20. Perform other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:•Minimum of 3 years procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.•High school diploma; College experience a plus.Specific Skills:•Demonstrated product knowledge.•Strong interpersonal, task planning, communication, and organizational skills.•Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.•Proven ability to excel in a team environment.•Above average computer skills (MS Office, ERP).•    Time management skills.•Superior problem solving, decision making, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.•Working knowledge of MRP.•Contract Management know how.•Excellent verbal and written skills communication skills.
