About Aztec
At Aztec, our goal is to add privacy to Ethereum. In the current public blockchain paradigm, users and entities unknowingly broadcast data in the public, compromising privacy and security to get trustlessness. Not only are unencrypted blockchains inherently privacy-exposing, they require significant redundancy to compute and verify the legitimacy of transactions.Implementing scalable encryption in a public blockchain paradigm requires cutting-edge math and engineering. Thankfully, our team of scientists and engineers invented Plonk, the industry-standard zkSNARK, and Noir, the universal language of zero knowledge. Now, we’re building a first of its kind Layer 2 with private smart contracts.
This requires new cryptographic primitives, a zero-knowledge DSL for writing contracts, a privacy-friendly execution environment, a carefully designed set of circuits that prove the validity of the chain to L1, a decentralized block-building and proving mechanism, and a top-tier user and developer experience. And it’s now time to bring it to market. We’ve raised $125 million from industry-leading investors including a16z crypto, Paradigm, Variant, Consensys, and a_capital, and we’re growing quickly.
The role:
Aztec is getting ready for its next phase of development, which includes public testnets before heading to mainnet. To be successful, Aztec will need production-grade, novel applications deployed by diverse groups of developers and companies. In order to facilitate successful development and deployment of applications and infrastructure, we are looking for external facing engineers to help early teams. Helping teams will include:
- Helping them navigate the features and constraints of the Aztec protocol
- Designing smart contract systems for Aztec
- Expertise with Aztec.nr, Aztec’s Noir smart contract framework
- Designing and implementing UIs for interfacing with Aztec applications
- Awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of Noir as a zk-DSL
- Awareness of Noir libraries and tooling available for smart contract development
An important part of this role will involve discovering and sharing insights into application design and best practices that can be shared with the wider Aztec community.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Working closely in 1-to-1 relationships with engineering teams in the ecosystem
- Having a deep knowledge on how Aztec and Noir can integrate with various tech stacks (e.g. browser or mobile applications, native software, etc)
- Providing the needed knowledge about Aztec and Noir to design and implement secure, production grade applications with external teams.
- Providing advanced engineering support to the team by helping guide projects through design and implementation decisions. This involves a complete full-stack skillset.
- Sharing feedback and lessons learned working with the external team, development experience improvements, engineering milestones
Skills and experience required:
- Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, systems level programming, etc
- 5-8+ years solid engineering experience
- A high degree of focus on code quality and reducing complexity
- Full stack capable, but with a focus on backend architecture, development and deployment at scale
- Able to provide clear and constructive feedback on other engineers PR's, teaching where necessary
- A passion for blockchain, it's potential, and what we're trying to achieve
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
Bonus points for:
- A passion for ZK and or blockchain applications plus relevant experience
- Experience with technical writing, project management
- Interest in interfacing with external teams
- Working in a remote first company
- Having lead and delivered complex engineering projects
- Multilingual
What we offer:
- Flexible and remote work environment
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays annually
- Additional benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional development.
- Quarterly offsite travel for collaboration
- Events and conference budget
- An opportunity to work at the cutting edge of blockchain and FinTech with a world class cryptography and engineering team
