About the Role
Bilby is, in its core, a data company. Our wide range of products and services all run on our global data collection, enrichment and analysis processes. The data team is there to ensure our daily operations run smoothly and bring the most recent and relevant developments in front of our customers who are looking to make smart, data-driven strategic decisions. As the Head of Data at Bilby, you will be accountable for ensuring we have the analytics capabilities in place that fuel our customer-facing products and services.
In your day-to-day, you’ll be working closely with the executive team in making data and product decisions but also working hands on expanding our Data Operations alongside your team of data engineers you’ll be leading. This role can be fully remote or hybrid/on-site if you are based in Hong Kong. For remote candidates, a 4 hour overlap in work hours is required.
Job Responsibilities
Own the data infrastructure, strategy, and roadmap. Work closely with the product leads to ensure alignment in data roadmap and those of product teams.
Lead and grow the team of Data Engineers. Expand the team by hiring Data Analysts and Scientists in the mid-term.
Maintain, enhance and expand the data acquisition processes by adding new scrapers and pipelines, and improving overall monitoring and efficiency.
Perform data enrichment by using 3rd party APIs as well as in-house ML models.
Work closely with the research teams in developing ML models that encapsulate country heuristics and generate actionable outputs (labels, classifications) that we can use to present relevant documents to users.
Work closely with the product teams to design user-friendly interfaces. Ensure that the large amount of data we provide can be browsed through and visualized intuitively.
Establishing processes and procedures to ensure high level of data quality
Key Qualifications
5+ years of experience working as a data engineer using a toolstack compatible with ours: GCP, GBQ, dbt, Airflow, OpenAI API, Baidu API, Scrapy, Google Data Studio.
Fluent in Python and SQL.
Experience building analytics capabilities in a start-up and working closely with key stakeholders, such as the Head of Product
Experience building ML models and pipelines - you don’t have to be an expert data scientist but know the fundamentals of basic models such as classification.
Leadership experience or strong willingness and skillset to step into a leadership role.
But at the same time, desire to work hands on as a technical peer and mentor to the day-to-day work of the team.
