Working hard to create something insanely great is a really fun thing to do. It mixes the addictive nature of watching a movie with the satisfaction of unboxing a new phone. Except you’re writing the script while you watch, and you’re sculpting the piece of kit that lives inside the box. You alone decide how good the movie is, or how the phone feels in your hand.
Working long hours is a by-product, not necessarily an input. You want the thing you’re creating to be as good as possible within the constraints of the resources you have at hand. So you push those resources to the limit.Every few months, a startup job post that describes working long hours is roasted by the non-startup media. The two sides often talk past each other - with the startup community unable to articulate why the long hours part is a necessary part.I think it’s because a startup is actually a hobby and a job.
It expands to both parts of your life. It becomes work and passion. We’re looking for someone to join us to help us create something insanely great. Something new, a product that wasn’t possible just a few short months ago. We’re pushing language models and generative tech to the limit to create a whole new way for people to practice and learn. We’re looking for someone who wants a job and a project. A job and a hobby. We want someone who is excited by the opportunity to spend the next chapter of their career with us doing something hard and rewarding. Almost like signing up for a job and an ironman. Or an internship and a job language course. This will fill to expand both parts of your life. For this position - we’re looking for someone who will work across our product, marketing site, brand design, marketing assets etc. etc. You might spend the morning brainstorming wireframes to solve a new user problem and then create a new landing page on our marketing site in the afternoon.
Anything that could possibly fall into the bucket of design will be part of your area of ownership. The team has over a decade of startup experience between us. We’ve already failed more times than many people do in their entire careers. We’ve learnt many lessons the hard way - and we hope to share some of that experience with you.If you read all that and thought - that sounds absolutely awful, I have a lot of other things I want to do - then you’re probably in the majority of people reading this and that's cool!If you read all that and thought - wow, this is what I’ve been waiting for - you’re probably in the minority and the odds for you are actually really good! Apple here with a short description of a project you’re really proud of and your CV / Github / Dribbble / Portfolio / website or whatever you think represents you! Do not count yourself out - we are hiring for enthusiasm and drive, not experience.NB: We will be in person most of the time - we work out of our Dublin HQ. We will consider remote candidates but we’ll want you to come to Dublin frequently.
