About Bilby
Bilby is a startup using AI to track and predict policy, regulations and laws for emerging markets. We currently are working on China and India with products that aid portfolio management, trading performance and geo-political monitoring. Our clients include hedge funds, NYSE listed companies and Fortune 500 companies.We are currently a small team of 7, with an office in Hong Kong.We have recently raised an oversubscribed seed round and are looking for a new team member to help us accelerate product development.

The Job
As part of our expansion efforts, we are looking for a Country Analysts to help us expand our coverage from China and India.Country Analysts will be experts on the governments of their countries.They may direct and conduct research, to be documented in such a way that it can be used by our data, technology and research teams.They may also be asked to lead local, junior analysts in research tasks.This role may be done part time, over the medium-term. This role can also be done remotely.The Country Analyst will report to the CEO, and will work closely with our Research teams.
Responsibilities
Direct and conduct research autonomously on the governments and countries of expertise
Document this research in a way that is usable to Bilby’s data, tech, research and product teams
Iterate and improve on their research, based on feedback from Bilby
Lead local, junior analysts in generating diagrams, labelling data, or otherwise helping to building AI models
Provide an insight into local markets, their buyers and dynamics
Write up reports about their country of expertise, using their research and Bilby software
These reports may be used as promotional material, or be sold as a subscription, e.g. Bloomberg Media
Qualifications
Required
10 or more years of experience as a country analyst, e.g. a political expert like a senior Advisor to governments, or a journalism background, diplomat
A systems thinker that has thought through how governments in their country of expertise work and are structured, the information sources they may utilise or be affected by, and how this links into other parts of society and other countries
This person may intuitively understand systems and pick up patterns.
Propensity to move at startup speed - fast, self directed, and a team player
Fluency in written and spoken English, as well as the local language(s) spoken and written in their country of expertise
Preferred
Experience mentoring and leading interns; continuing links with local educational institutions
Good writing skills
A basic understanding of technology, e.g. software engineering, data analytics or AI
