About BRINC:
At BRINC, we are redefining public safety with an innovative ecosystem of life-saving tools. Our journey started with the development of drones and ruggedized throw phones, designed to access unsafe areas and establish communication to de-escalate situations. Today, we've expanded into creating and deploying 911 response networks, where drones are dispatched to 911 calls to provide real-time visual data, enhancing safety and enabling de-escalation-focused responses. Our cutting-edge solutions are utilized by over 500 public safety agencies across America.
At BRINC, we are committed to recruiting the world's best talent to join us in our mission to support first responders in saving lives. We are currently seeking skilled embedded software engineers to develop flight-critical firmware, with a focus on advanced drone pilot assistance features.
About this Role:
In addition to launching more advanced drones, we're also expanding our software ecosystem into realtime monitoring and fleet management, and we recently shipped the first version of our first web app: LiveOps. This app gives drone operators and first response teams access to real-time live-streaming drone data such as visual and thermal video feeds, 3D map data via point clouds, and a myriad of drone telemetry – it’s essentially a web-based drone fleet management software. But our vision isn’t just fleet management; LiveOps represents a critical part of BRINC’s transition from a company that just sells drones to a company that sells entire drone programs: we want to build out the entire drone ecosystem (both hardware and software) for our customers.
It’s an ambitious goal, but it’s one that we feel confident about – we’ve got a lot of interest from customers in what we’ve built so far, and we are seeking a backend/platform engineer to join our engineering team and contribute to the development of the real-time platform and infrastructure that powers our web app.
Key Responsibilities:
Own the scalable backend platform that supports our worldwide real-time services
Ensure our platform is secure, reliable, and performant
Build our platform infrastructure and tooling
Rapidly prototype new project ideas for customers and internal stakeholders
Work with cross-functional hardware and autonomy teams to solve challenges like streaming and displaying live drone data for non-technical users in a variety of formats
Qualifications:
A Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in computer science or a related field and 6+ years of experience shipping high-quality code and building robust infrastructure
Experience building backend platforms, from the infrastructure up to the API layer (bonus if you’ve built real-time data platforms, scalable microservice architectures, and dealing with security & encryption requirements)
Experience with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc) and are comfortable switching between software engineering and Cloud DevOps
Familiarity with serverless architecture, and understand the tradeoffs between performance and cost when running servers at scale
Excellent attention to detail, especially around scalability, performance, and security
You take a creative approach to problem-solving and have exceptional analytical skills
You thrive in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements
You want to work independently and in a small team, take initiative, and communicate effectively across the organization
Ability to pass fingerprint-based background check.
Projects you may work on:
Streaming various types of data from drones to web and mobile devices
Scaling our backend architecture to support massive fleets of drones
Integrating with third-party APIs, such as Live911 and Twilio, to augment our web application with versatile external features and services
Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, developer tools, and test infrastructure
BRINC Culture Values:
Try the hard stuff
Be innovative - Invent the future
Move fast
Listen to end-users
Strive for excellence
Don’t build a dystopia
Be frugal
Save lives through technology
