Description
Our Fintech Software/Hedge Fund organization based in Charlotte and Greenwich, CT is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our rapidly growing team. This position will play a vital role in helping to lead our transition to a more modern architecture including AWS, Snowflake, and related technologies as well as supporting client dashboarding, better data governance and improved data quality. The ideal candidate will have significant expertise with modern programming and data storage technologies and be capable of defining and leading technical initiatives.
We expect this individual to be proficient in SQL Server, AWS, Snowflake, Python and have experience with modern data engineering technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Airflow, Docker, etc.). Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization to help lead and support Alpha Theory’s vision to transition to AWS and implement Snowflake with related modern technologies.
- Contribute to the decision-making process related to the selection of new tools and technologies.
- Work closely with the leadership of Alpha Theory and our Hedge Fund to make strategic decisions about how the organizations implement shared tools and data.
- Contribute to the strategy and implementation of Alpha Theory’s long-term data architecture.
- Define and implement data security and data governance practices across the organization.
- Design interactive tooling to debug data issues with strategies to improve data quality.
- Design and develop modern automated tooling and scripts for data validation and take corrective actions as needed.
- Develop ETL and data pipelines while ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and meet performance requirements.
- Contribute the development and support of client dashboards, AI tools and other initiatives that provide our clients a rich, diverse and modern set of tools to interact with our wealth of data.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a data engineer or software engineering experience (including data engineering)
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or comparable experience)
- Proven experience as a lead Data Engineer or similar role, with a focus on AWS cloud migration and Snowflake data warehouse implementation.
- Strong expertise in SQL, Python, and AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Redshift, and related services
- Experience with tools and technologies commonly used in modern data engineering (e.g., Apache Spark, Airflow, Docker, AWS, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake data warehouse, including architecture design, performance optimization, and SQL development.
- Excellent understanding of data engineering concepts, ETL processes, data modeling, and database design principles.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and influence technical decisions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS and Snowflake related certifications
- Experience with AWS cloud migrations projects
- Experience with financial data
- Familiar with OpenAPI standards (FastAPI)
