SMX is seeking a
Cloud Database Administrator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of our SQL databases running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances.The US Navy Common-Failure Reporting, Analysis and Correction Action System (C-FRACAS) is a vital program to naval aviation data integrity. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage highly available and scalable SQL database solutions on AWS EC2.
- Perform daily tasks such as backup and recovery, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Secure database environments by implementing access controls, encryption, and auditing best practices.
- Identify and implement database optimization strategies to improve performance and scalability.
- Migrate existing on-premises databases to the AWS cloud.
- Automate database administration tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Work closely with developers and application teams to ensure database functionality meets application requirements.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in cloud databases and SQL.
Required Skills:
- Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Security +
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on SQL Server or MySQL.
- Proven experience administering databases on AWS EC2 instances.
- Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices (e.g., access control, encryption, auditing).
- Experience with database performance optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with AWS services like VPCs, Security Groups, IAM, and S3.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
