As a Substation Protection and Controls Designer, you will execute the complex design and project engineering on substation projects for our utility companies across the country.
As a Protection and Controls Designer, some typical substation duties include a number of interrelated drawings, including one-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and interconnection diagrams, as well as numerous calculations to support the overall design.
What you will do:
- Work with engineers and clients to resolve issues
- Reading and understanding client standards and specifications, other project related documents, and meeting their requirements
- Project scheduling
- Perform tasks under the assigned hours
- Perform the detailed P&C design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but are not limited to:
- One-line diagrams
- P&C equipment selection
- Protection and control schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- SCADA
- Communications
- Material lists
- Conduit and cable sizing/routing
- AC and DC systems calculations and sizing
- Engineering Documentation such as Requests for Information (RFIs), Equipment Specifications, Protection and Control Descriptions, and Construction Specifications
- Work with engineers to develop drawing packages
- Coordinate designs with other disciplines such as Substation Physical, Structural, and Civil
- Participation in quality assurance and quality control programs
- Other duties as assigned
What we are looking for:
- Possesses a thorough understanding of AutoCAD drafting programs and is skilled in its application.
- Design experience using Google Earth, AutoCAD, GIS Software, & Pole Loading Analysis software Ability to learn client standards and relevant codes required for design and construction practices.
- Ability to apply technical skills to routine projects with supervision.
- Understands technical requirements needed in project design.
Your background:
- 3-6 years of experience on technical, engineering projects.
- ComEd and/or First Energy experience preferred or utility industry experience.
- Experience in AutoCAD and master drawing files.
- Experience creating schematics, Protection and Control, SCADA, One Line Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Panel Front Views and Cabinet Layouts.
- Working on the following types of drawings: Electrical Plans, Electrical Elevations, Section and Details.
