As a
Physical Designer
, you will execute the complex design and project engineering on Power projects for our utility companies across the country. As a Physical Designer, you will perform system designs and calculations, as well as coordinate with other disciplines on substation projects.
What you will do:
- Complete designs for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4-69kV) by preparing design drawings, specifications, material lists and calculations for approval by the project lead.
- Exercises knowledge of the electrical power distribution design process and understands company technical standards.
- Integrates multiple components of design (i.e. structural, civil, electrical, etc.) under supervision.
- Visit construction sites to document as-built conditions required for the design.
- Coordinates on-going engineering communication and participation in the site implementation walk-downs.
- Prepares design packages by developing actual design requirements.
- Provides onsite technical design support to field construction during design package implementation.
- Assist in the gathering of information from field survey data and verify accuracy of maps and record drawings.
- Utilize company's project management system to track and update design activities.
- Quality reviews of all work prior to delivery.
- Executes cross discipline checks and coordination.
- Recognizes and reports risk management issues to superiors as appropriate.
- Understands and follows all the requirements of the Milhouse Project Management Manual
- Participate in community service activities and understand implications of involvement.
What we are looking for:
- Possesses a thorough understanding of AutoCAD drafting programs and is skilled in its application.
- Design experience using Google Earth, AutoCAD, GIS Software, & Pole Loading Analysis software Ability to learn client standards and relevant codes required for design and construction practices.
- Ability to apply technical skills to routine projects with supervision.
- Understands technical requirements needed in project design and how various disciplines are integrated to meet client needs.
- Understand the profession’s ethical obligation to Client and the public welfare.
- Understand project budgets and requirement to complete assignments within budgeted dollars and time.
- Work across disciplines and office locations to fully utilize firm experiential knowledge.
- Ability to coordinate work with engineers, surveyors, CAD technicians, administrative staff and clients.
- Represent the firm in all aspects of projects and assignments to prospective employees, clients, and the communities we serve.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from team members, clients, surveyors, code enforcement or regulatory agencies.
- Ability to effectively present information in oral and written format.
- Continually participate in Individual Development planning and program.
- Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
Your background:
- Associate degree required.
- 3-6 years of experience of physical design experience.
