Senior Consultant –Thermal Sciences (Fire & Explosion)


An engineer or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) with training and experience in the areas of Fire and Explosion Investigation, safety within the oil and gas Industry, Risk Management, and other industrial incident investigations. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities for large and small scale client projects related to industrial consulting, insurance investigations, and litigation. The position will also involve providing testimony in court proceedings, both at depositions and trials, as necessary. Candidate will market the company and self to obtain and/or maintain client base and build business.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Confer with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • Perform forensic analysis in industrial and litigation projects as part of a team environment
  • Conduct analyses in the field, laboratory, and office related to the field of fire and explosion investigation, natural gas incident investigations, other industrial safety related investigations, and proactive risk management consulting.
  • Perform field inspections of residential, commercial, transportation and industrial structures and facilities, etc. as needed.
  • Attend field inspections and advise clients on activities where local, state, and federal agencies may be involved
  • Write technical reports, communicate effectively with clients, perform research and present technical material clearly and concisely to a litigation-oriented audience.
  • Confer with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. 
  • Conduct well-developed and well-prepared client presentations and technical conference presentations.
  • Prepare and review project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
  • Perform marketing and business development to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base.
  • Will eventually need to be willing to testify in court proceedings (depositions and/or trials) on behalf of clients, as required.

Education Requirements:


  • BS, MS, or PhD in Safety, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field. If an Engineer, degree should be from an ABET accredited engineering school.
  • CSP or PE license preferred

Computer Skills:


  • Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft Office; Internet software skills.

Other Skills/Abilities or Other Qualifications:


  •  A minimum of 15 years of experience and familiarity with the following:
  • Fire and explosion and other incident investigation 
  • Natural gas or propane generation, distribution and use 
  • Risk Management
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Industrial Safety
  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional manner and develop business both internally and externally.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing.
  • Must be available to travel 50% as part of the national practice of which 33% will be field/site inspections.
  • Must be able to work or travel on weekends and holidays as required.

Must be able to work in small spaces. Must be able to kneel, squat, or bend.

Must be able to pass a pulmonary function test and wear a respirator.
