As the Project Accounting Manager you will manage a team of accounting professionals working across the full-life cycle of project accounting for all AEC sectors, projects and the family of companies at Milhouse.
The project accounting team is responsible for working closing with our Project teams, Engineering and Construction technical leadership and the F&A team to monitor and support the capture of billable hours spent on each project, maximization of invoicing accuracy and revenue opportunities while maintaining project records for meeting documentary compliance requirements. Given the technical nature of our environment your background in Engineering and/or Construction industries is required as well as your proficiency in Deltek to really help you to 'hit the ground running' and make a quick impact in our fast paced environment.
In turn you will work closely with leadership, have the opportunity to create change and work within a large finance and accounting team spread across Lombard and Chicago.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage and develop the project accounting team;
- Contribute and manage all processes associated with the preparation of invoices for all assigned projects on a monthly, interim, and milestone basis.
- Responsible for understanding and developing the team in the areas of compensation and payment clauses, overhead rates, revenue enhancers per the contractual terms of a project.
- Provide information to appropriate team members regarding project status, which may include the management of 3rd party outsourced resources.
- Perform estimates to completion and revenue determinations;
- Support key processes that impact monthly metrics associated with the development of worksheets, schedules, exhibits and summaries to be used in financial reports.
- Responsible for ensuring individually or the team has completed project set-up and maintenance within our system of record.
- Has overall team ownership in ensuring compliance with sub change orders, owner billings, budget transfers, subcontractor pay requirements, payroll and accounts payable invoices, etc.
- Understand the nature of the project cost systems and the information processed;
- Perform other related accounting/financial tasks or other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related experience.
- 5-7 years of experience in project accounting and revenue assurance; 1-3 years of related leadership experience.
- Overall experience in the Engineering or Construction industry is required.
- Experience demonstrating the ability to prepare and review invoices.
- Working Knowledge in Deltek software is required.
- Competent accounting and internal control skills as related to project entities/ contracts.
- Strong Excel, Word, and Outlook knowledge.
- Collaborative and results-driven written and verbal communication skills required
- Ability to meet monthly metrics, facilitate team performance and work in a dynamic changing environment.
- Ability to interpret and manage various project accounting data and documents.
- Proven ability as a self-starter.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, including cross-functional.
