This is a hybrid role based out of Chicago or San Francisco and will require you to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

As an Engineering Manager at Grindr, you’ll have the opportunity to play a key role in building the next generation of the Grindr app! Working within our engineering team, you will solve challenging problems while managing a small team of talented engineers. You will provide your team with thought leadership and expert technical guidance/mentorship as well as turn empathy into action for our enthusiastic, queer user base.
What’s the job?
- Lead with empathy and provide thought leadership, expert technical guidance, and mentorship to a team of passionate engineers.
- Determine the needs of our diverse & complex user groups, requiring applied understanding and resolution of complex or unusual business problems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the product and technical teams, bridging the gap between competing priorities and drivers (Including our product, design, data, cloud ops, SRE, and AI/ML teams).
- Become an expert in feature-driven engineering.
What We'll Love About You
- You are experienced in leading and managing teams of engineers. You can coach and mentor other engineers on best engineering practices as well as their careers!
- You have a passion for programming and a solid record for shipping multiple production-grade applications.
- You have experience launching or maintaining high-impact product software at scale.
- You are able to step “into the trenches,” when required, as well as step back and see the “big picture”
- You have experience with Architecture at scale and meaningful experience in cloud technologies/databases.
- You’ve worked closely with various levels of business stakeholders including the c-suite, and understand value alignment.
- You are a mobile-first engineering manager (iOS/Android) and have experience developing native mobile applications
- You have excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills with the ability to define and communicate the “big picture” to key stakeholders at various levels.
- You don’t shy away from conflict resolution and work to bridge the gap between competing priorities to maintain a culture of collaboration across the organization.
- You are experienced with working on a geographically dispersed team and are able to bridge the gap between time zones.
- You always strive for operational excellence: the quality of the software owned by your team and operational performance metrics improves under your leadership.

This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
