The Senior Associate, SALT M&A that will assume a wide set of responsibilities across buy-side and sell-side transactions to assess client’s tax risks and opportunities by applying and interpreting income tax law and conducting comprehensive discussions with management and their advisors. The primary focus of this role will be on the SALT aspects of a transaction and related services. This role represents a unique opportunity for highly motivated professionals to collaborate closely with senior-level decision makers at middle market clients and contribute to the success of their growth strategies.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive solutions to complex transactional challenges, working directly with senior personnel at Portage Point and our clients
- Perform SALT due diligence, tax structuring and tax modeling in connection with transactions across various industries with a focus on the middle market
- Advise clients on SALT income and indirect tax services including tax planning, tax research and tax structuring
- Identify and act as a liaison for prospective opportunities to provide additional services, such as Section 382 and post-acquisition integration analysis from a SALT perspective
- Draft clear and compelling reports outlining key takeaways
- Collaborate closely with performance improvement, restructuring and investment banking colleagues
- Provide professional development coaching to junior team members
- Share and manage best practices as well as lead internal trainings where required
- Support business development, talent acquisition and firm development efforts
- Contribute to creating a high-performing and inclusive culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a top undergraduate program
- Located or willing to relocate to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York or Philadelphia
- Invested in a team-based culture that involves in office four days per week and willing to work at client sites as needed
- Four plus years of tax advisory experience in a SALT M&A tax practice within a Big 4 accounting firm
- CPA or JD required
- Ability to successfully work in a small, collaborative team environment
- High degree of maturity with a proven ability to interact with senior executives, private equity firms, lenders, lawyers, middle managers and line workers
- Effectively communicates analysis through Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint including high-quality messaging, structure and formatting
- Eagerness to be responsive at all times
- Proven track-record of success in high pressure, time-constrained environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong e-mail etiquette
- Top-tier organizational skills and attention to detail

$135,000 - $200,000 a yearThe City of New York and the State of California require Portage Point to provide compensation information for this role. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate.
