About the Role:
OfferUp is looking for an experienced Senior Data Science Manager to lead our Data Science team. The right candidate will have a passion for diving deep on new and existing data sources to help drive actionable recommendations. We seek to delight our users with the safest, simplest and most effective local marketplace app on the planet. Your role as a Data Scientist Manager will be to hire and develop a team of machine learning scientists that partner with all engineering teams to make our products more intelligent.

- Serve as an analytics advisor to solve business problems using data.
- Work with the executive team and business partners to define product requirements, provide analytical support, and create models to enhance the safety of our customers.
- Identify opportunities and execute results across the company in product search, personalization recommender, crime risk modeling, user reputation, etc.
- Contribute to the development of end-to-end experimentation-forward product improvements from conception/research, to offline testing, then live A/B testing and finally shipping to production.
- Leverage the latest machine learning technologies to solve complex business problems.
- Develop and grow the data scientists on the team, helping them advance in their careers.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication
Requirements:
- 10+ years of demonstrated experience with machine learning or data science, 5+ years managing a team
- Expertise with modeling in Python, and data manipulation in SQL
- Hands-on experience in predictive modeling and analyzes to solve real business problems
- Strong analysis, problem-solving, data structures, and algorithm development background
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related technical field
- Experience in the Trust & Safety, Risk domains, Search, Advertising or Experimentation
- Knowledge of the following: entity extraction, semantics in text, image recognition, recommender systems, ranking, LDA, classification
Compensation Range: $250-280k base payOfferUp offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. Individual salaries within our ranges are determined through a variety of factors including, but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. All roles will receive equity in OfferUp as part of their compensation, the amount of equity varying depending on the individual’s level and experience.
In addition to our compensation package, this role is eligible to enroll in health insurance, healthcare savings and spending accounts, retirement savings benefits (401(k) plan with match), basic and voluntary life insurance, disability benefits, and paid time off for sick leave, family and/or medical leave, vacation, and 12 company holidays. In regard to vacation time, OfferUp has a flexible vacation policy and, in general, full-time exempt employees will be expected to take 3-5 weeks (15-30 days) of pre-planned vacation time per year. Vacation needs are flexible and will naturally vary from year to year based on individual circumstances and business needs. In regard to sick time, all full-time employees (exempt and non-exempt) will be granted 12 days (96 hours) of sick time per year (pro-rated if the start date is other than January 1).
