Collective Health is expanding its Customer Experience team! We believe health benefits should be simple, accessible, and technology-driven. But moreover, we believe healthcare should be grounded by the people that it serves. To accomplish this, we are reimagining the operational core of health insurance. We are seeking leaders to help deliver on this vision.We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to help further develop and measure the customer experience delivered by our Customer Experience teams.

In this role, you will work closely with the Customer Experience team, serving as a thought partner in coordinating and collaborating internally on the design, execution, and measurement of our customer experience. You will be responsible for driving the data and reporting strategy to help achieve our customer experience operational strategy. 

What you'll do:


  • Data Pipelines: Take charge of designing, updating, and maintaining data transformation pipelines to ensure consistent reliable data availability including managing data models, collaborating across departments to develop and 
  • Data Modeling: Apply your deep understanding of data modeling principles to design efficient and scalable data structures, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity. This includes developing cohesive logical data models, working cross functionally and across departments to execute the development of proposed physical data models to support day to day data operations and team functions. uphold efficient structures that support daily operations and team functions. 
  • Advanced SQL Knowledge: Leverage your expertise in SQL to write complex queries, optimize performance, and extract insights from large datasets and ensure data accuracy and reliability. This includes the optimization of existing data assets, Common Table Expressions, Windows Functions, Updates and Joins to enhance the efficiency and robustness of our data operations
  • Python Proficiency: Demonstrate intermediate-level expertise in Python to proficiently automate complex data extraction, transformation, and loading processes. Demonstrate your competence in developing sophisticated custom analytics solutions, utilizing Python's range of capabilities. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in optimizing data workflows and enhancing the overall efficiency of our business intelligence systems.
  • Data Landscape: Develop a holistic, deep understanding of the various data sources used for data analysis and reporting. Identify gaps in existing data and reporting processes and propose innovative solutions to bridge those gaps.
  • Advanced Data Visualization: Exhibit an expert command in creating dynamic and user-centric reports and dashboards, presenting comprehensive data-driven insights to stakeholders. Your proficiency in crafting visually compelling representations will play a pivotal role in conveying complex information effectively.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proactively lead strategic discussions with stakeholders across departments as a trusted consulting partner. Understand their analytical requirements, provide strategic insights, and collaborate in the development of tailored business intelligence solutions. You will play a key role in shaping data-driven strategies and fostering a collaborative environment where business intelligence is integrated seamlessly into decision-making processes.
  • Representation in Technical and Non-Technical Forums: Take the lead as a primary liaison between the Data Operations team and various departments, demonstrating a strategic approach in communicating sophisticated technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and vice versa. As a senior business intelligence professional, you will actively contribute to shaping the narrative around data initiatives, ensuring that your communication not only informs but strategically aligns with overarching business goals as a consulting partner.
  • Leadership: Demonstrate proactive leadership in steering discussions on best practices in data analysis, visualization, and reporting. Your role extends beyond providing guidance; you will play a key role in shaping the strategic landscape of our data initiatives. 
  • Mentorship: Take a leading role in providing mentorship and guidance to junior team members, actively cultivating their professional growth and accelerating the development of their technical and analytical proficiency.
  • Sprint/Project Management: Manage and coordinate development sprints, strategically allocating tasks in alignment with roadmap initiatives and immediate business requirements. Play a pivotal role in ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality BI solutions. Your project management expertise will not only streamline processes but also contribute to the overall efficiency and success of our business intelligence initiatives. Drive collaborative efforts, balancing strategic goals with practical delivery, to meet and exceed organizational expectations.
  • Advanced Data/Reporting Optimization and Maintenance: Proactively lead the enhancement and maintenance efforts for existing data pipelines and reports, ensuring they dynamically adapt to changes in both data structures and evolving business requirements. Your advanced expertise will contribute to the evolution of our data infrastructure, fostering a responsive and agile business intelligence environment that seamlessly aligns with the dynamic needs of the organization.
  • Business Intelligence Experience: Utilize your extensive experience developing and deploying business intelligence solutions, specifically with Looker, to design, develop, and maintain complex analytics and data models. This includes the semantic layer, user experience components, reporting assets,  and experience standardization
  • Advanced Data Analysis: Apply advanced analytical techniques to dissect intricate datasets, identifying nuanced trends, patterns, and actionable insights that serve as key drivers for informed business decisions. Your seasoned expertise in data analysis will contribute significantly to our strategic decision-making processes, providing valuable insights to guide the organization forward.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and swiftly resolve complex issues related to data quality, data pipelines, report accuracy, and system performance. Lead in-depth troubleshooting efforts. Conduct thorough root cause analyses to identify underlying issues impacting data quality and system performance. Implement strategic solutions that not only resolve immediate concerns but also prevent future occurrences through proactive measures.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay attuned to the latest industry trends and innovations in business intelligence and data analytics, proactively integrating new insights to enhance the strategic development of our BI solutions. Engage in knowledge-sharing initiatives to ensure our team remains at the forefront of evolving practices in the dynamic BI landscape.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for developed BI solutions, including data models, workflows, and technical specifications. Ensure that documentation is up-to-date, easily accessible, and serves as a valuable resource for team members and stakeholders
  • Additional project work as assigned

To be successful in this role, you'll need:


  • Strong proficiency in data modeling techniques and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and the ability to write complex queries for data analysis and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data manipulation and automation.
  • Analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills, which require interpreting large amounts of data and its impact to operations, ability to consolidate and tell a story.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven track record to synthesize complex information into clear tangible recommendations
  • Proven experience in mentoring and guiding junior staff members.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal - with comfort presenting to executive audiences, leading discussion, and synthesizing complex information into concise communications. 
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) as a Business Intelligence Developer or in a similar role.
  • Extensive experience with data analysis / visualization tools (i.e., Looker, LookML, Tableau, Power BI, Presto SQL) to develop front-end reports to meet the needs of end-users in a user-friendly way. 
  • Agility to navigate through ambiguity - comfortable with establishing new processes when gaps are present.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Pay Transparency Statement 


This is a hybrid position based out of one of our offices: San Francisco, CA, Plano, TX, or Lehi, UT. Hybrid employees are expected to be in the office three days per week (Plano, TX) or two days per week (all other locations). #LI-hybridThe actual pay rate offered within the range will depend on factors including geographic location, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
