About the role


We are looking for someone excited to join the backend engineering team and collaborate on challenges at a fast-paced startup. You will join Syndio at a critical moment as we invest in our growing engineering teams to evolve the platform to meet increasingly complex user needs. Customer success hinges on high-quality platform and application development. Your solid and dependable software engineering work for our products will have a meaningful impact on helping companies achieve fairness in the workplace.

Required Skills


  • Experience building reliable, performant, and maintainable backend systems
  • Strong skills in backend development with proficiency in Go (proficiency with additional modern programming languages, especially Python, is a plus)
  • Proficient in designing and implementing asynchronous workflows (experience with tools like Apache Airflow, Temporal, or Google Cloud Run for workflow orchestration is a plus)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in architecting applications on cloud platforms (we use Google Cloud Platform)
  • Proficient with data model and schema design and technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, and Cloud PubSub
  • Demonstrated ability to discuss and weigh trade-offs across API boundaries with resource usage and scalability in mind
  • Familiarity with unit and integration testing methodologies
  • Effective communication capabilities for interacting with both technical and non-technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams in a collaborative environment

Extra Credit


  • Experience with using Docker to containerize and run applications, as well as interacting with Kubernetes clusters
  • Advanced Analytics Development: Experience building analytical tools supporting complex data analysis.
  • Experience using pandas, scypy, or similar data analysis and manipulation libraries

Role Progression


  • Within 1 Month, we'll get to know each other! You’ll have completed a comprehensive and supportive onboarding process to help you understand the product, the business, and the customer journey. You'll set up and service your development environment and be able to run the entire app and critical workflows locally. You'll also start handling tickets and small feature requests.
  • Within 3 Months, you'll deepen your understanding of user pain points and start to form an opinion on potential improvements in the codebase. Share these insights with the Engineering Manager. Expect an increasing workload and start providing more input on building complex features.
  • Within 6 Months, you’ll be fully ramped up and working at capacity! You'll collaborate with other engineers to design, execute, and break down tasks for yourself and others.

    Below is an outline of the interview plan for our Mid-Level Software Engineer position. Please note that this is what we expect the process to look like; we may ask you for supplemental information or require an additional step before making a final decision.

  • 30-minute interview with a member of our Talent Team
  • 45-minute Zoom interview with an Engineering Manager
  • A take-home assignment (This replaces live coding in further interviews)
  • Four video interviews with several team members (Backend, Frontend, Product) - 2.75 hours
