Operations Manager (Onboarding, Culture & Performance)

PackfleetOnsite
This job is no longer open

Description

Big delivery companies have had it their way for too long. In a world where you can order food from any restaurant and get it delivered in minutes, ecommerce is being left behind. The legacy companies chuck parcels over your fence, make you wait in all day, or give you tracking that feels like it was built in the 90s (probably because it was). It’s a terrible experience for consumers and merchants alike. We’re on a mission to change that. We’re rebuilding deliveries from the ground up, using our own tech and electric vehicles to fundamentally change the way things work.

We’re building the best deliveries on earth 🌎The Operations team at Packfleet is the backbone of everything we do. We manage the entirety of the physical operation, including managing our drivers and warehouse team, ensuring our all-electric fleet is raring to go, amazing customer support for merchants and recipients, and much more. Plus problem solving in the moment when things go wrong!

👥 What we're looking for

We're looking for an amazing person to join our Operations team. You'll be someone who really cares about building a delivery team with a great culture and a firm but fair approach, and taking ownership over this. You'll be running recruitment days, onboarding our new drivers, and managing them throughout their time with us, from conversations about performance to hearing their feedback. Think running casual forums or coffee mornings, impromptu chats and calls, and working closely with our People team.Your role will be very varied and with lots of room to grow in the directions you enjoy the most. We're looking for someone that doesn’t necessarily have direct experience but instead someone smart and capable who’s excited about getting hands-on and has a true care for the culture of our delivery team.

Whether you're a former teacher or a former operations manager, this might be the role for you!

What you’ll be doing day to day:

  • Running our hiring & recruitment process to help us find lovely new drivers to join the team
  • Onboarding drivers on their first day, getting them set-up with the app, their equipment, their hire van, and so on
  • Being a firm but fair hand when dealing with performance issues, and taking a proactive approach so we can have conversations with our delivery team before making any tough decisions (but equally not being afraid to make them)
  • Supporting our front-line live operations & customer operations team if they identify any issues or causes concern with our delivery team
  • Working closely with our People team to build a great culture within the delivery team, and changes we can make to improve it whilst also considering any trade-offs here
  • Hosting and facilitating spaces to hear how the delivery team are feeling and any pain points, think forums like coffee mornings as drivers arrive from 6am, or giving a few a call once they're back in the evening
  • Getting the opportunity to input into other areas of the business that interest you, whether that’s refining the product, diving into SQL, or anything else

🏡 Logistics (pun intended 🫢)

This is a hybrid role. Our office/depot is based in Bermondsey, London where we spend at least 2 days/week together. You'll likely need to be in the office 3 or 4 days a week so you can keep close to the day-to-day physical operations and stay close to the delivery team, though this may vary week-to-week.

💌 How to apply

You can apply here in just a few minutes, and if you have any questions or queries you’re welcome also to drop an email to jobs@packfleet.com as well. We are able to sponsor visas for this role.

💛 Our commitment to diversity

We care deeply about creating a diverse team so we particularly encourage applications from people from different underrepresented demographics and encourage you, regardless of your background and past experience, to apply if the role excites you.If we want to solve problems for people across the UK (and one day around the world), our team has to represent those we’re solving them for. So we need to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes them.

Requirements

You should apply if:

  • You’re excited about what we’re doing! We’re a tech company working in a very traditional industry and that gives us a huge opportunity to build something truly different.
  • You’re comfortable getting hands-on in an early stage startup environment, you'll need to take a lot of proactive ownership (no one is going to tell you exactly what to do!),
  • You have a genuine & deep care for building a great culture, and understand the importance of giving feedback and supporting others around you.
  • You have a firm but fair approach, and feel comfortable interacting with folks from various backgrounds whilst being flexible to meet them where they're at,
  • You build your thinking up from first principles, rather than just taking what you’ve seen elsewhere.
  • You can point to some relevant experience that gives us a good sense of your abilities but this doesn't need to be operations or logistics specific. .
  • You should be comfortable with the different employment types (employed, worker and self-employed) and what it means for our driver's to be workers as opposed to employees.

Benefits

What you’ll get:

  • A competitive internally-transparent salary and stock options in Packfleet, with the choice to trade-off salary for additional stock options on signing. The range for this role, based on experience, is £40,000 - £45,000 alongside meaningful equity.
  • Experience at an early stage startup, with a team that’s taken companies from zero-to-one before.
  • A close knit working environment where everybody is working in the same direction, with regular monthly socials.
  • A company & culture that cares about the people within it, with benefits like health insurance, mental health days-off, a learning budget, internally-transparent salaries and 35 days holiday (inc. bank holidays) with top-ups & unpaid holiday if you need more.
  • Our Recharge Day on the last Friday of every month: a paid day off, to spend doing something you enjoy with others in the team, rest and recuperate, or a bit of both.
  • A budget to spend at our merchants every month, as well as free deliveries through Packfleet, so you can support independent businesses and also get the Packfleet experience first hand.
  • The equipment you need to work to your best.
